Lufia makin' a comeback

wƒGƒXƒgƒ|ƒŠƒXx–¼ìRPG‚̐Vì‚ª”.”„Œˆ’ - ƒtƒ@ƒ~’Ê.com
(English via: Square Enix phoenix downs Lufia series)
Quote:
Famitsu has revealed that the Lufia series (called Estopolis in Japan), previously thought by many to be dead and decomposing, will be getting a revival via RPG developing megahugegiant Square Enix. It won’t be the usual suspects of Nomura and Kawazu working on this one though: it’ll be handled by staff members of the original Lufia titles from the SNES. A system is not yet known, but more infomation is expected in next week’s Famitsu magazine.
Nice. I've been pretended that Ruins of Lore and The Legend Returns don't exist. I hope this one keeps it real.

(Actually reliable) word of mouth is that it's on DS, it's NOT a turn-based RPG, and it is in fact not the original team -_-.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Remake of the first Lufia except as a hack and slash styled game where you raise pets to battle against friends, but only via local wireless!

;_____; Poor poor Shining Force...

I don't know WHY they thought that would be a good idea... Surely another company won't make that same mistake right? RIGHT?

Oh well, I know that no matter how terrible it is, I'll probably still play it.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Yes, because why would we bother voting with our wallets when game companies go in clearly retarded directions.

I would love for the first one to be revamped. Fortress of Doom is probably one of my favorite SNES RPGs.

Come on Nintendo, let's up the ante and remake Startropics or Illusion of Gaia

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I'm actually quite glad it's going to be an action RPG. I happen to enjoy those.

I hope Yasunori Shiono will be doing the soundtrack this time around, as well.

Yeah. Because the last time a great 16 bit era RPG went from RPG to action it was so great. Fucking Lufia Neo.

Yes, because why would we bother voting with our wallets when game companies go in clearly retarded directions.
Game companies will continue to produce shitty games no matter how much we tell them that they suck for it. No matter what any gamer will tell them, they're still going to go and produce the same games over and over and over again ( I'm looking at you FPS genre > )...Why the fuck would they care what WE want when they know that a bunch of idiots are going to play their games and think that they're the best thing since sliced bread. Game designers seem far to afraid to try anything new, so they just stick with what people have been continuously buying: WWII Games, Generic ass FPS games, and RPGs that ALL FOLLOW THE SAME STORY, but just have different main characters.

I won't lie, I'll play the game even if it gets terrible reviews, just to see if at least it came out somewhat decent or enjoyable to me. In all fairness though, I never said that I was going to BUY the game. If it's good, I will, but I plan on getting some playtime in with it first before considering dropping any money.

( If I'm not being coherant or making any sense here, I apologize as I haven't slept since Monday. Castlevania Marathon followed by Megaman 1 - x3 Marathon, Followed by Bushido Blade 1&2, Destrega, and Unholy War Playthroughs )

I was speaking idiomatically.

I am not a clever pony...

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

In other news, commercial companies trying to turn a profit cater for the wider, shopping public rather than a niche group of people who prefer to pirate stuff anyway. I know you kids like to think that people who make computer games are somehow honour-bound to make games the way you want them to be made to fulfill the rose-tinted nostalgia boner you have for older games, rather than listening to the results of the the millions of pounds they spend on consumer research to determine what's most likely to make them money but making computer games is a business, not some sort of hippy art form. Get over it, or start making games yourself, or just don't play shit games.

Well, I imagine the decision making process is more along the lines of picking a name that does have that rose-tinted nostalgia factor, realising that traditional jrpgs have been done to death and that kids these days prefer action games rather than picking options from a menu over and over again and combining the two in some unholy partnership. I'm not saying they're right, I'm saying that's how marketing teams and focus groups work.

How ya doing, buddy?

Whelp, I'm perfectly fine with Lufia only spanning its SNES titles in my mind :V Figured this wouldn't go the way most of us hoped.

According to Andriasang, the upcoming DS game is a remake of Lufia II.

I've never played the originals so I might check this one out.

Neverland did a fantastic fucking job transforming our beloved Shining Force series into an action RPG shitfest. I am just filled with excitement to see how they remake this classic into the same genre.

Please don't make it play like a diablo clone. PLEEEEEASE? I mean, I can see this working if it played like a Zelda/Alundra game considering Lufia 2 was full of fun little puzzles.

The comparison to Alundra is an interesting one. I'm far from convinced that this game will be even close to good, but I guess we can always get a pleasant surprise.

Well, the first trailer for the game is up, and I really don't think it looks that bad.

It reminds me a bit of Ys, and that's a good thing.
