Gateway Repair

Hi all,

I recently sent and received back my laptop to Gateway to be fixed (the lid's hinge cracked). They did an excellent job but they decided to reformat my harddrive or give me a new one.
They asked me first if I backed everything up, so I backed up some, but not all thinking that its just a lid replacement, why owuld they format. I torrented this program that's supposed to recover stuff that's been reformated but it only detected stuff from the current system.
I'm pretty sure they just replaced my harddrive, so does anyone know if by any chance that they would keep the old ones or if I could get it back to just get some data? (photos)

I sent it to Decision One (I'm guessing they're gateway's computer fixers in Canada)

Jam it back in, in the dark.

They did ask you to make a full backup. They discharged their obligations by doing so. The odds are not in your favour. I'd suggest that you just move on with your life, and treat it as a learning experience. The chances that they might be able to find and return your drive, after the repair job has been completed are too slim to contemplate.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Yeah, I'm quite sure, as well, that your data is long gone. Although, I think it's pretty weird that they formatted/swapped your drive. One would think they wouldn't go beyond the call of duty and spend extra time messing with the hard drive when it's the screen hinge that's broken. That is, unless this is a less-than-reputable company you sent the laptop to and they replaced your drive with something different. :/

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
