Facial Hair Discussion K?

Alrighty. So, I have a deal running with a close female friend. She had long hair for the longest time (since, like, 3rd grade) and finally cut it to shoulder-length. I asked her why she cut it, she said she felt like it. Said she'd grow it out if I grew a beard, kinda like a joke. She'd been railing on me for growing one for quite some time, so I figured "what the hell." I don't have any job interviews for some time anyways. No need to look neat and spiffy.

So, I'm shooting for the Grizzly Adams sorta look for now just to humor her. Brought this up to a friend lately and he laughed, saying it'd drive girls away. "Wasn't my intent to draw any in doing this," I told him. Another person in the room insisted that all the ladies he knew (or most. Something like that) preferred a fella with some decent facial hair.

Now, I'm not doing this to try and SCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE or anything. Moreso an inside joke between her and me. Kinda hard to describe the backstory on. But my buddies and I fell into a short little discussion on this. Do ladies (on average) like their beaus to be clean shaven? Or scraggled? Or rivalling Cousin It? Any point where you absolutely draw the line? (I realize all people have their preferences, but indulge me with a nice stack-up of GFF opinions.)

For the guys... Can you even stand growing a beard? Got one? (This spilled over into an accompanying discussion. For example, both of my brothers can't grow a beard because they say it itches too much. Or it comes in too thin to allow them to even grow a decent one.)

Alternate question to the ladies -- can you grow a beard? pics plz

I believe there was a thread in the past on this. But I haven't seen one as of late. So bah. Here it is.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
Hey, maybe you should try that thing Chie was talking about.

Here's what I learned from my girlfriend; girls don't mind facial hair it's just the early stages of it that is bothersome for them.

I rather enjoy my moustache, I wish I could grow a beard and as far as it itching. I imagine that would happen anywhere there is hair and you shave it and let it grow back.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I usually don't shave until I get a haircut, and I usually only get a haircut every two to three months, so I usually have a beard by then. Not a very good one necessarily, as my beard probably doesn't grow as full as other guys' do, but it is enough to distinguish it as a beard.

It really only itches in the week or so after shaving it, so it's not too much of a hassle to grow out. I actually wouldn't cut it without cutting my hair anyway, since I look pretty stupid with long hair and no beard (oppositely, I also look stupid with a long beard and short hair, which is why I always shave when I get a haircut).

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I don't like facial hair... it's scratchy and generally makes me think perhaps the boy is just lazy.

But boys don't seem to like short hair on girls very much, so I suppose if I'm allowed to cut my hair, they're darn well allowed to grow a beard.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I really want to grow a chin strap. I would keep it really neat and tidy, nothing is worse than a person with unruly facial hair.

How ya doing, buddy?

I think attempting to keep a kempt beard or anything is pretty goofy unless you're a lot older. I just let scruff take over everywhere. Looks more . I shave usually, but when i don't then i dont shave for weeks so (like now) it gets ridiculously scruffy but i like it so yeah.

Stuff like chinstraps and goatees are just absurd to me. Oh but one time i saw a guy with a chin strap that formed a dollar sign on his cheek. Was pretty keen.

I guess it depends on your social group. Its super popular with some people, and i guess others just think it looks kind of lameo.

I think the best is when you see like skinny white 26 year old guys with intense beards. Anyone who looks like they shouldnt have a beard, but does, is awesome.

I'd kind of like to grow a beard. Not for any reason other than I never have, and am a bit curious. Too bad that beards are a no-no where I work. Lots of moving parts and snapping machines. And if I ever had to get a mask or resperator on, it has to be able to get a good seal on the skin.

Damn safety regulations.

My opinion is clean shaven. It shows me that you can at least clean after yourself. Most of my guy friends who start growing facial hair usually around finals time receives an abhorrent no-no from me. More like I step into the servery, see them and go "Holy crap shave that off." It's just not my thing.

On the other hand, guys who do look good with facial hair only does so when it's stubble. Like most of Gerard Butler's pictures.

General Grant Lee type facial hair is just disgusting. I just mention "glazed donuts" and people get my message.

Back in the day, I used to grow a goatee from time to time. It wasn't really a hassle. It didn't itch, only took a week to complete, and the missus loved it. Unfortunately, she only thought it looked hot, but she hated getting third degree burns when we were close. I was on and off with the thing for a year or so before I decided I would just go clean-shaven. I guess I can't do that again, now that I'm working.

I had a goatee my last year in college, just to try something different; it looks awful when I see pictures now, though. I can't grow a beard, and I would look very creepy with a moustache, so facial hair in general is pretty much out for me.

I think facial hair is kind of gross and as a guy, i will never grow it out. Unless you are a model to begin with, don't do it. Only the hottest guys still look hot with facial hair.

I really don't like facial hair. I associate it with being unclean, I guess. It looks OK on some guys, but even then I always think they'd look better without it.

I have the incredible ability to grow nice (not thin) facial hair, and last year I had a well-kept short beard+mustache for a while (shaved neck though, and used trimmer to keep beard short). That got old, so I shaved it off to look like my profile pic (back to goatee).

Now that I'm losing weight, I decided to get rid of the 'stache, and I look a LOT younger. I tell you, I like getting rid of the facial hair. I still have a really short goatee (no mustache) because I can't bear to part with it yet.

I usually like a bearded man, if only because it seems to scream masculinity to me. I have no idea why I think that.

Some men just look HORRIBLE with a beard, so I can't say I prefer it on all men. But really, a big guy with a beard is like striking gold for me.

All of my visible facial hair grows on my neck. Everything else on my face is just fuzz.

So no, I don't like it, and yes, I shave.

I have a half goatee thing going. Just the chin part, not the moustache part connecting to it, and it looks pretty good on me. A couple months ago I shaved it and looked about 15. In addition to the chin hair, I have excellent sideburns. I have tried the beard thing, but decided that I hate having a moustache, and a beard without a stache looks kind of funny {hi there Abe Lincoln}, so I scrapped that after a couple weeks.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Same as russ. I haven't completely shaved since mid-March. I've been letting my goatee go out since then. It's getting close to where I can put some rubber bands around it and make a tail or something. I do keep the rest of my facial hair trim though, and I shave off the rest of my facial hair (moustache, sideburns, etc.). I've been going to events and interviews like this and I guess my hot looks coupled with my awesome skills got me hot job offers. I'm gonna keep this thing for my cousin's upcoming wedding and probably for a few more months until I get sick of it, if I do. I'm going for that grandmaster sensei look.
