Saint's Row
I just want to start off saying that for thoes who still haven't played the demo yet that there are three ways that you can get it. First is by pre book at select Video Game stores, second is by getting the the latest OXM, and lastly for thoes who have LIVE to wait until Aug 02 and download it for free.
All right then, now that that's over with what do people who have PLAYED the demo think of it? I personally think that if the game is long enough and maintains the quality that it had in the demo that it can potentially surpass GTA (in the game sense anyway), but a GTA killer? That one I think we'll just have to wait and see about. I could go on about all the things that I love about this game so far over GTA, but it will be shorter to simply list the things that GTA still has over SR. First (at least in the demo) there's no blood. Second is that there's not as many buildings that you can go in. And that's all that really comes to mind at the moment. Lastly though the things that I've been most impressed about are first the graphics, simply WoW. The second thing is it's flush and 95% consisten frame rate. And lastly, the shotgun is so damn fun to weild. Alright, I'm gonna shut up and stop hogging the spotlight now and let the rest of ya have a chance to speak, because personally I'm probably more interested in what you have to say then you are in what I have to say. Alright then, take it away!!! *This post has not been spell checked* Jam it back in, in the dark. |
The demo left a definite taste of 'meh' in my mouth. The mute main character thing should be left out of games. From now on. It's stupid seeing them interact by nodding and making angry faces. Come on, already.
I'd rather play GTA:VC than buying this, to be honest. It doesn't seem shit, just... I dunno, unwanted? Not needed? Spoiler:

I do agree that the dumb character is a bit annoying, and that the gangster aspect is about as overused as WWII. But from a gameplay standpoint I find it more fun then the last GTA which I found to be the same thing I played back in 2001, except it now took a half an hour to get from mission to objective and the graphics didn't even get improved one bit.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |

Speaking of the demo, it's not just available for preorders and OXM buyers anymore. The Saints Row demo has hit the marketplace.

I wouldn't call this a GTA killer by any means. I'd rather just wait for the next GTA on the 360!
![]() The two games are similar, but whenever I described Saints Row to someone I'd always say, "It's like GTA and True Crime combined." The sandbox elements are there, however somewhat fleshed out. For example, in the demo you can rob different stores. You have to point your gun at them and wait for them to put their hands up. Afterwards, you have to walk them to the safe and get cash. However, if you keep your crosshairs off them for too long they'll run and turn on the alarm! I was kind of impressed with this. However, other than this and a few other nuances the gameplay isn't breakthrough. The whole gang on gang violence premise isn't worthwhile, either. =\ I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() Observant Provisions | [adult swim] "Dude, this is gonna.. Man, this is gonna wicked, like, really hurt." |
You're right when you say that it's not a breakthrough, but if it were that different from GTA then it wouldn't really be comparable to GTA now would it?
It's kind of like when Killzone came out, alot of people called that a Halo killer, when in fact they're not even the same other then that they're both FPSs but the mechanics are compleatly different. Also I guess it's also hard to say whether it's really fair compairing a "next gen" game to a current gen game too. So I guess if anything, SR is just a REALLY good game of the same genre to hold you over till GTA4 comes out. (that is if GTA4 is better) What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Actually, it's terribly boring. The most fun I had was with the face maker at the start.
Everything in this game has been done before. The swearing, the forced and aggrivating gang talk and setting, the whole "lol cars to steal" thing. Nothing is original here. I was hoping there would be SOMETHING that would at least catch my eye here so I could say or think that this was anything more than a poorly made GTA clone. But there isn't. It's San Andreas with an HD coat of paint and that's it. And the whole attitude the game was giving off, the whole "Gang wars" thing, just made me laugh. It was pathetic at how it was trying to be so serious. If the mood were lighter, I'm sure that would be less laughable. Nothing is done exceptionally WELL either. Hand to hand combat? Shooting? Driving? None of that crap was well done. Hell, none of it was done more than competantly. It was all boring. Dreary. Sleep-inducing. Pick a negative adjective and it applies. All impressions based off of the demo, of course. FELIPE NO |
I guess any game of this type will always be compared to GTA and as such needs to do something a whole lot better or different to make itself stand out. I'm not sure if going serious is the best route either. A lot of what makes the GTA games so good is the humour and personally I'm not a huge fan of games that take themselves too seriously. I also believe there's a danger with games trying to do too many things and not doing any of them very well. Genre crossing games are often pretty weak in the gameplay department, just look at that 24 game for example. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() ![]() |
I think if you were nitpicking you'd point out that "GTA 6" is actually Grand Theft Auto IV. Not sure where you got the idea that Vice City and San Andreas had imaginary numbers attached to them.

Grand Theft Auto 4 would not be "GTA 6", it would actually be somethingl ike GTA 10, because you're not counting Liberty or Vice City Stories, GTA Advance, or GTA London. And if you want to count the Director's Cut, it would be GTA 11.
lol nitpicking faggotry. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
