Blade the series

Ok, so this show had its two hour premiered on spike last, and in short it wasn’t any thing mind-blowing but it I was entertained, none-the-less. Not must see TV but not bad as a mid-week guilty pleasure.

First off, I should say my only familiarity with Blade are the three movies. The First, one I found to be ok, the second was the series’ peak and the third was a major failure. The show is in continuity with the movies, which could be bad, or good depending on where they draw their inspiration.

IGN’s review covers most of my complaints about the premiere (I whould post a link but it says I need more posts to do so, when did this happen?)

In particular, the actor playing Blade doesn’t have the necessary screen presence and is trying to hard to imitate Snipes. Secondly, while the overall production values were satisfactory the fistfights were too choppy and fake looking, the actor looks like he needs some more training with the sword too. Jill Wagner performance felt dull as well, I started liking her a bit more as a vampire so there is some glimmer of hope. The plot was good for what it is a basic set up to the series and a reintroduction to the blade universe.

That my two cents.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Yeah I liked it but I agree the fight scenes were meh, but the story has got me interested to keep watching.

Eh, the show was alright. Definitely not one of the best summer programs on right now, but I'll probably keep watching.

I've only seen the first two movies, and I have to say that the secong movie and this series don't even approach the level of the first movie. But of course, I loved that movie based on Stephen Dorff's performance alone, so I'll probably never like anything else as much in the Blade universe.

First off, I think the new Blade is alright. He's no Wesley Snipes, but Kirk Jones is a pretty good actor (I liked him on The Shield and Over There), and I think he fits the role pretty well. It does seem like he's trying to incorporate too many things from Snipes's performance though, and in the end I thnk he would have been better off trying to make the character his own.

The bad guy, Marcus van Sciver (however you spell it), seems like he has potential, but so far he's just pretty meh. Hopefully his character will improve in later episodes. The same thing applies to his henchwoman, Chase.

Shen is no Whistler, but he's pretty cool. He definitely helps add some humor to the show. And as for Krista, yeah, she was pretty generic until she turned into a vampire. Now that she is one though, her character will definitely probably get better.

I have to say though, I'm glad that the rest of the episodes are only an hour, because this episode really dragged on at slow pace at two hours. The first hour alone could hardly keep my attention, as it was pretty much all just talk.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Hard to believe it was just 5 seasons...

Actually, I enjoyed the first movie, thought the second movie had cool action and was definitely entertaining and fun, but wasn't quite as good as the first, and I just bought the 3rd one on DVD and watched it 2 nights ago actually. I realize that the humor is quite a departure from the first film, but I think it works. I thought Biel's character was a bit under-developed, and I would have preferred Posey's villain to be more frighteningly evil/twisted, but other than that I find no major flaws.
