Unknown video file .avf (any players for it?)
I wasn't really sure if this is where I should post this so feel free to move it if it's in the wrong place.
I'm trying to exact video from some of my older Dreamcatcher games and the video files are under AVF. Bink and Smacker won't open it because I'm guessing it's not that type of file. I've tried to just rename the extension, but that doesn't seem to work either. Does anyone know how I could go about opening these files so I can extract the video to an avi? So I can easily grab frame by frame caps? I've included a copy of one of the files via sendspace. If someone could help me figure this out I'd be so very grateful. http://www.sendspace.com/file/z90rqa Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Moved to Help Desk.
Thanks to eriol for the hint. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
try AccountsVision Workbook to open your file

I'm quite sure that won't work, RYU.

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Is that a video program? It says "spreadsheet." All I know is that the file was made with 16-bit directx and C++. I am not familiar with either of those things. I just wanted to extract the video file to make some icons. The file is from the Dreamcatcher Nancy Drew games. Those are the only ones I can't seem to decode because it's a different type of extension that I've never heard of. I was speaking idiomatically. |
How ya doing, buddy? |
I opened one of the avf files in a hex editor but it didn't tell me much. All it said on the first line was "AVF Wayne Sikes". And the rest of it I couldn't understand. I guess it's obvious that these files will never be decoded.
![]() I hate dreamcatcher and their retarded game files! ![]() At least, HI is using something more common now. FELIPE NO |
Okay, I've even tried to capture the video while I'm playing the game but that doesn't seem to work either. I've tried programs like Mr. Captor, Game Cam, Camtasia, and two other programs that I can't remember the names too. If anyone has any suggestions, please do!

I know what filext says about the AVF extension, but usually Her Interactive names their extensions differently. The extensions .AVF for the VIDEO files listed under the HDVideo and CDVideo folders are from the first five games HI had done with Dreamcatcher. The rest of them are done in something newer. These .AVF files aren't spreadsheets! Why would there be spreadsheets in a video game under a folder entitled Video? They are video files hidden within .AVF extension. The video files were created with DirectX and C++ so I don't see why these capturing programs wouldn't pick them up unless there's something else hidden in the file that distorts the capping procedure. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
