HELP ME!! Jet Set Radio Future won't run on my XBox!

I got myself a original Jet Set Radio Future disc (not the Sega GT combo) and it doesn't work with my XBox!

I've read (only after I order it) that this game won't work on newer model XBox's, but I've only read it in _one_ forum, not elsewhere so I kept my order and now that game doesn't work!!

Can anyone help me? This is a PAL game with a PAL console.
Has anyone had this problem before? Can something be done? I really want to play this game!!

If you know that solution to this problem please tell me.

Double Post:
Attention: I've found out the problem with Jet Set Radio Future.

When I had a Dreamcast back then I had a football game demo that only worked with the Dreamcast languagem configured to Spanish, I was messing with the JSRF manual when I remembered this and thought: "Could it be...?"

And hell it really was!

JET SET RADIO FUTURE (PAL) WILL ONLY WORK IF YOU CONFIGURE YOUR XBOX LANGUAGE TO ENGLISH!

I ask the mods here to pin this topic should any other european user have the same frustrating problem, it would be a shame for someone to not be able to play this game.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Yeah, some games will only work if your system is set to ENGLISH witch is pretty weird and may cause hysteria, in some cases, to people who don't have a lot imagination.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

How could I know that the game would only work with the english language setting?

Weird, that's extremely lame. At least in your case you seem to have enough of a grasp on the English langauge that running it in that setting won't be too big a deal whenever you want to play JSRF.

I dunno if this sucker deserves a sticky, but we have a technical problems thread, perhaps it would do well to be merged with that? I dunno, I'll let Shin do his thing.

Yeah it's quite lame, I still can't figure why would a game care about what language is the Xbox dashboard using... infact I even doubt the game is aware of that fact in any way. Might be a conbination of dashboard and game bugs... or something else totally unrelated.

I think this topic deserves a sticky somewhere since even Microsoft won't help you (I called them before posting here) and they have no clue (as usual). Other european users may have the same problem, maybe even with other games.

I was speaking idiomatically.

At the risk of sounding harsh, this is an extremely rare problem and this is officially an English speaking message board. I don't really feel this is worth having another stickied MW thread for.

There are similar problems playing certain games on Live. Burnout for example, you have to be using the right framerate settings to play with Americans (Burnout Takedown, PAL 50) or to even get online (BF2:MC PAL 50) or at least that's my experience. It's sloppy localisation on the part of the developers but like I say, it doesn't crop up too often and is easily remedied. It's not like Jet Set Radio is blazing up the retail charts at the moment anyway.

It's good to know the solution though if anyone else has the same problem and asks. I'll leave this to slowly sink off the page for now. Discuss this by all means and if anyone else in the crazy world of PAL gaming finds similar problems with running games, please post them here. If there are enough to warrant it, I'll create a problem/solution thread or something.

Probably not, I asked someone and apparently the portuguese language setting wasn't available in the dashboard back when the Xbox and JSRF were lauched. Portuguese was introducted in a later kernel version so that's probably why this game craps out when I set the console that way.

Didn't know that... and IMHO it doesn't make any sense since all USA games run at 60 FPS (NTSC == 60Hz).

Unfortunly no... infact this game went out of production in 2002. There is the Sega GT/JSRF combo disk that's a lot more common but I have 'The Real Deal™'

Like I said this might be a portuguese only problem, that would explain why I haven't found any info on this problem with the expection of a single post on a portuguese forum. Since I'm the only portuguese here it's unlikely that someone will ever run into the same problem... unless someone here just like to have his/her console set in wierd languages :lolsign:

PAL 60 mimcs the NTSC framerate but in such a way as can be displayed on all but the oldest TVs. I guess having the same framerate allows the cars to all run at the same speeds although personally I didn't notice any actual increase or decrease in game speed.

Edit: Silly Shin, I meant PAL 60, not PAL 50.

AH!! Yeah to play with americans using PAL 60 makes sense since it syncs the frames. PAL 50 would do the opposite.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
