Smokin' Aces

So you guys seen this movie or what?

I'm downloading it right now. Just wanted to get some feedback as to the quality of this film. Hopefully it's good. It looks okay from the previews, but I've been fooled before.

In case you've never heard of this movie you can find the trailer here.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I heard this movie was pretty decent and I went to see it this last weekend. While it does make an effort to be a style-over-substance popcorn flick it still left me unimpressed. The action wasn't bad and the acting was surprisingly good, (albeit on the cheesy side) there was just too much of an affinity to wanting to be a Guy Ritchie comical shoot 'em up to make it really stand out.

Nonethless, Joe Carnahan made a semi-solid action flick here; even if it's not on par with his previous effort Narc. If some of the characters had stayed around a bit longer, instead of getting clipped so early, I might have enjoyed it more. But for those who just want a good ol' mindless hitman flick, you might want to actually cough up the $6 to catch a matinee of this.

i enjoyed the movie quite a bit, since i haven't watched a mindless action flick for some time. personally, i think the highlight was definately jeremy piven. but that's because i think ari gold is the most bad-ass fictional harvard graduate on tv.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Mindless [action and plot] is the best word to sum it up. The twist at the end wasn't something I was waiting for. Took me by surprise. and I was so laughing how.... well.... see it. you'll understand.

How ya doing, buddy?

I'm with everybody else. It was good, but it wasn't as good as alot of people make it out to be. It's definitely worth watching; but it's more or less mindless violence with splashes of funny thrown in here and there. The red necks are HILARIOUS btw.

I was speaking idiomatically.

What a dissapointment.

It was laughable.

"Oh no! A sniper outside is firing at us! Quickly. Shoot randomly outside possibly wounding hundreds of innocent people on the other side of the hotel!"

This is the guy who bought us NARC for fuck's sake! NARC! And we get this shit?

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I found this movie to be really disappointing on many levels.

For one, there's far too many characters and not really a whole lot of development on them, so by the time the end rolls around you really don't care for them any more than you did when you were first introduced to them.

Perhaps I was expecting a different kind of movie, but the few funny parts just didn't work for me. I saw lots of potential for a really good movie, but it just seemed like it took itself too seriously for the subject matter. Maybe if it was done as a black comedy it could have worked. But as an action movie it failed, imo.

If you've got the bandwidth to spare, I suppose it is.

No, not really, but seeing as how you are already downloading it you might as well finish it up and see for yourself how great of a waste of time and bandwidth you got yourself. But if you do like movies with mindless violence and abrupt plotless deaths then it might not be as bad.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

That's true. I do like movies with mindless violence.

I just like to watch a movie where I don't have to think. Relaxing.

Okay, I just watched the whole movie and I have to say it was good shit. There were a few parts I didn't understand though:

Spoiler:
The end. I didn't fuckin' get the end.

Also, I didn't get:

Spoiler:
Peace, Ben Affleck.

And whatever happened to the black girls?

I know that
Spoiler:
One of them was rescued, but what about the other one after she saw them together? She shoot herself? I thought I heard a gun shot that implied she did.
