Wireless woes
I've just upgraded my wired ADSL router to a Linksys WAG54GS wireless ADSL router. I've enabled DHCP, and the two desktops that are wired are working perfectly fine with it. I then downloaded and ran NetStumbler on the laptops; it could pick up the wireless connection and showed a green status icon, but the signal/noise graphs are flat. The laptop appears to connect to the wireless network, however, it assigns itself a class B (169.254.xxx.xxx) address with 255.255.0.0 as its subnet mask which indicates that DHCP is not correctly assigning IP addresses.
The fact that the two desktops are working shows that DHCP is enabled and functioning correctly, and the two laptops' wireless PCMCIA cards are also working as I've tested them on a friend's wireless network. I thought the router wasn't transmitting, but then why can NetStumbler pick it up?
Edit: I've tried a Netgear DG834Gv2 wireless router, and the network is working flawlessly. I'm going to return the router tomorrow and purchase a Netgear one. (There has been numerous reports of this particular router having problems.)
Closed.
How ya doing, buddy?
