program turns off Firewall/ICS
I have a problem with a program or script that's turning off Windows Firewall/ICS. I've checked it through services.msc and it keeps being stopped after about 5 minutes or so of network access. I'm not sure what it could be but it's giving me a headache. Any help with this?

Are you running Windows XP Pro/Home?
Which service packs have you currently got installed? Do you have any other firewall protection programs running such as McAfee Security Suite? There's nowhere I can't reach. |
If you have most other firewalls, they will disable Windows XP firewall, let them. If not you might have a Spyware/virus in your midst. Check for both problems.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
sorry I didn't post specs:
Windows XP Pro SP2 up to date. The ONLY program that may have a problem is AVG Free Edition, but I've had that on my computer for the longest time with no problems. I've ran 3 full system scans and spyware scans with Spybot, but nothing. I guess thanks for you guys' concern at this point, but I've already fresh installed. ![]() I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() [ SCHWARZE-5 - Helger Collins ]

Windows firewall is pretty lame though, I suggest stepping up and getting something better, like ZoneAlarm which does a much better job as a software firewall. Windows' firewall won't protect against outbound hacking, meaning if you got a virus and soemone wants to send your bank info to them.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
I know the builtin ICF is pants, but I needed that service enabled because it's coupled with ICS.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() [ SCHWARZE-5 - Helger Collins ]

ICS is pants as well. May I ask why you are using it? What you need it for? Thanks.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Well, seemingly (when I had the system), it was necessary for clients computer off my comp to get an IP. When the service disabled itself, it was giving them APIPA, or a self-addressed IP.

I see. The reason for most consumer router sales is to properly share an internet connection. ICS is available as a very last resort, but it screws with a lot of other networking stuff such as firewalls etc.
