CPU Temps

I recently overclocked my processor. It's an AMD Barton 2400 (1.8GHz) and I was able to get it up to a 3200 (2.15 GHz). Going any higher or bumping the FSB any higher caused Windows to BSOD or not boot at all.

Now, before I did this my normal temps were ~42C idle and ~50C under load. After the OC the temps are now ~51C idle and ~56-58C under load.

I ran CPU Burn in for 24 hours and didn't find any stability issues or data errors.

But the temps have me worried. Are those too high for AMD or that particular CPU? Or will I be okay with those kind of temps.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

The temps themselves are a little too high. I have a 2500+ and I overclocked it to 3200+ speeds as well and found my temps to be a little lower, but they were still a little too high for my tastes. But also, even though you were able to reach 2.15GHz it's really not that much of a gain, and it still won't perform nearly as good as a true 3200+ because your chip only has 256K of cache.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

The specified maximum die temperature for most Athlon XP model processors is 85° Celsius, so your temps are perfectly fine.

There is no 2400+ rated Barton, though. I reckon you have a "Thoroughbred" core with 256K cache.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Rock is correct I could of sworn there is no 2400+ Barton core CPU, generally Bartons run cooler than Thoroughbreds, but as long as your load temps are under 60 degrees which in your case they are in the mid fifty range there is no problem.

How ya doing, buddy?

Ah sorry, I made a mistake last night. It's a 2500+ not 2400+. Though Sandra reports it as "Duron M10 & Athlon MP/XP (Barton/Thorton) 130nm 1.8GHz+". But I'm not that educated on processor models. ._.

I didn't know they could go so high though. Good to know then. I always thought it was much lower.

The temps do stay under 60C. They'll only go over 60C for a second or two if it's really hot in the room. Then it goes back down to 56-58C. But normally the room is kept pretty cool.

I guess I'll just stick with it. If the temps go any higher I'll just take it back down again.

Thank you.

I was speaking idiomatically.
