That’s why I don’t go to the beach…
"One man is dead, and a woman remains hospitalized for a fifth day. In both cases, the victim or family said they contracted serious bacterial infections from sewage-polluted waters.
The state Department of Health isn't declaring cause and effect between any illnesses and the 48 million gallons of raw sewage the city dumped into the ocean. But the risks, they say, are serious. " Why I don't surf And why I don't go to the beach in general... ![]() Jam it back in, in the dark.

Eew gross...that reminds me of the movie Cabin Fever with the infected water and whatnot. It also makes me think of those Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B commercials at a tropical place where just about any water can be infected :S
How ya doing, buddy? |
I read about that earlier in the day. Man, look at that foot, all yellow and pus-sy.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Raw sewage is dumped in the ocean en masse every day. This should come as no surprise to anyone.
Its becoming more and more a problem, apparently. How ya doing, buddy? |
That's really sad. It's a good thing I don't swim in the ocean. I just party on the shore

Hey, I have that TV remote. It's a Panasonic, right?
And don't drink water that hasn't been filtered or boiled, that is assuming you don't want to get Beaver-Fever... What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
They call it beaver fever down there? FELIPE NO |
Poor folks. Despite all this sewage dumping it appears the Dept. of Health still sees little or no relation between the sewage and the infections. Also, poor creatures of the sea have to deal with this all the time.

Ha, I knew before I even got my mouse to the link for this thread that it'd be about all the bullshit going on down here.
It's pretty horrible... City & State cares more about getting the tourists money than anything, and money is great especially since we depend on tourists, but that's not worth the health and lives of the people, to me...and it's not worth the lawsuits they'd receive for not warning people in the first place. The stupid decision they made to "get rid of" the sewage completely fucked the very thing most tourists come here for. Yeah, it was raining really hard here for like 44 days straight and it was an emergency, but it sure as hell wasn't worth it. How ya doing, buddy? |
If i take the channel (drainage) on my bike and go straight down, i hit the beach. =X
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Eew, and the doctor told them the bacteria came from human feces. That is just nasty. I got E. coli poisoning once from contaminated ice served on campus. Having bacteria that thrive in human feces go in your stomach is the worse ever-- I puked out everything from lunch onwards into the toilet for half an hour non stop (not that anyone wanted to hear that but oh well.)

The Amreican government doesn't believe in environmental damage. Apparently it's unconstitutional or something.

I've never had a problem.
Besides, you'd probably have to contract the infection from some sort of wound. My finger actually had to have the last joint of his index finger removed because it was infected by a flesh-eating bacteria. May have been from the beach. So be cautious, but the beach is an awesome place. It's not a snake pit. (That said, clean the ocean, world) I was speaking idiomatically. |
Nasty, but it could have been necrotizing fasciitis. So strange to think that the same pathogen that causes the common sore throat can cause your flesh to melt off if it gets into an open wound elsewhere on your body.

Holy Chocobo |
They probably should have posted some kind of warning sign. I've never had a problem of this sort at the beach. But, then again, I live near the Atlantic. What city wsa this in? I can't seem to find that information in the article. And if that information isn't there, this is apoor article.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() ![]() |

Ugh, that is disgusting. I'm not much for swimming in the ocean (tooooo many nightmares), especially considering I'm not a very good swimmer. I don't understand, though, how they can't see any connection between sewage and infection. I mean...duh.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
If I can't see through the water, it ain't worth going in to.
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Or maybe you don't go to the beach because you're fat. =)
I was speaking idiomatically. |
Guess what. That guy received the results from the doctor and he's not telling anyone what he got! I think he’s still going to pursue the lawsuit against the state, but he could at least tell everyone what infected his leg.:dotdotdot:
