Magic the Gathering

Well, I wasn't too sure if this would go here or somewhere else (if it goes somewhere else could someone just please move it to the proper forum). I figured that since there is technically a video game form of MTG, that maybe i can sneak in the card game into this forum too.

So here goes.

I figure if anyone else plays here, maybe we can setup Skype games, discuss strategies/decks, people could post ideas for decks and share their mtg history/experience.

Well, I started playing MTG in high school. I wouldn't say that I'm good but I do enjoy playing the game. I'm a big time green player, if the deck doesn't have green I honestly don't know what to do. lol

I used to be really into 60 card casual but as last year, I've taken apart most of my decks and play nothing but EDH.

This is my current favorite deck
Plague EDH (Commander / EDH MTG Deck)

And this is just something that I've been fucking with for the last few months. Trying to tweak out the bugs from it.
Simic (Commander / EDH MTG Deck)

Let me know what you think and maybe advice for the decks. I'm always open for suggestions and advice.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Hmm, not that it really matters but I've not done anything remotely like sensible modding for such a long time I'm going to move this to Pang's Basement.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

If I play EDH/Commander, I play with my Counterpunch deck. I only recently got back into MTG thanks to nearly everyone around me playing it these days. I have a few decks, but have debated dabbling in MTG:O. If people from here want to play online, there's that or something like Lackey CCG which has plugins for various CCG type games.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

My G/B EDH was original the Counter-Punch but I'm so bad at running 3 colors that I wasn't sure how to make it work.

I've played MTG:O a couple times but I don't actually own it. I was originally going to get it when they were giving away the Grave Titan with it but by the time I was going to get it, most of the card shops around here were out of the titan. No point in spending the MS Points if I not gonna get the card.

thanks Shin for the help. I wasn't sure if I had put it in the right place

I pretty much only play a variant I call Extreme Highlander which is just a huge deck with one of every card ever and about 2500 basic lands

Obviously I only play online but the whole deck-building process is just no fun for me anymore and I can't go back on sniping out a win with a Camel wearing Umezawa's Jitte

I was speaking idiomatically.

HAHAHA 2500 lands? Are you running Battle of Wits in that deck too? And the moment Jitte hits the field, if I have an artifact destruction card, I take that shit out.

Why naturally, but the chances of anyone ever drawing it are pretty infinitesimal.

Very true but why would you play an extreme version of Highlander? Just bored?

I think you and I are talking about two very different "MTG:O" games here, unless Magic Online also offered Grave Titans. Only game I knew that offered Grave Titans is Magic the Gathering: Duel of the Planeswalkers 2012 for 360 (PSN got a different Titan). Magic online that I'm talking about is created by Wizards and allows you to buy cards and create decks. If this is the same one you're talking about then my mind is blown that they gave away Grave Titans for that as well.

I used to play in real life quite a bit. Also used to play it through OCTGN quite a bit, and still gladly would if anyone is interested.

Oh yeah, does anyone actually play by the new rules they came out with for Magic 2010 (assuming you are not using a program that forces you)? I mean most weren't a big deal, but combat damage not using the stack? Come on, that's like the best part of the game.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I just really really like the novelty of having no idea what the hell I'm going to draw. I mean the format, such as it is, has some problems — removal is pretty scarce — but the fuckin' weird clutch plays you get are just phenomenal because you're forced to find some way to use cards you'd probably never remove from your binder, and that's a lot more interesting than the predictability of making a deck in advance. I mean, you won with your deck full of good cards that you hand-picked because they work well together, what does that prove? Psh.

I honestly like the fact that they removed that. I remember people blocking, killing my creature and then Flinging the creature to my face. Ugh. No thanks.

If anyone is down a game through skype, PM me for my skype info..

Pang- I had a couple friends that got bored with the regular gametypes so they started playing something called "The cube" or maybe it's just "Cube". Supposedly before the game starts, you have a stack of cards that you hand picked to put into the "Cube". Everyone draws 1 card from it and passes the stack to the next player until all the cards have been picked.

I don't know honestly know all the rules but I think that how they explained it to me. Maybe something interesting for you to try as well?

I might as well post this one as well..

Burn Deck (Commander / EDH MTG Deck)

It's the girlfriend's deck. She had the idea of a burn EDH but I'm kind of the one that put it together.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I looked at OCTGN awhile back when Magic Workstation kinda stopped development and never went forward with their plugin engine. However, OCTGN never really fufilled my plugin lust either. Thats why I recommended Lackey CCG.

What exactly are you looking for with plugins? I looked at Lackey, and not only is it not the prettiest program I've ever seen, it sounds like it lacks support for sealed/drafts, which is the real dealbreaker for me.

So Lackey is basically a program where you can input your own deck and play online against other people?

Other games. The plugin library supports a TON of games, with people making plugins for non CCG style games as well. For example, someone is currently developing a plugin for Catan.

The program isn't the prettiest, but it has a lot of features. The sealed/draft piece people will usually use online sites for and then put their decks into Lackey.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I play occasionally with my friend online (we're using Cockatrice). I'm not that good with the whole deck building thing, so I just copy decks online, heh. Never really got the the chance to get into MtG during my younger years because the cards were a bit too expensive in my hometown island.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

It's never too late to start playing. I used to play in High School and I recently started to pick it up again in the last couple years when I found out that a lot of my friends played as well.

It's kinda funny because no one said anything about until my friend found my old decks. Then everyone was like "oh i play too." It's like the deep secret that no one wants to talk about

I play mtg, yeah, I play a lot.

Currently, as most sensible folk do, I only play EDH as I have no patience for random dick-heads at draft tables and Standard is just too damn stressful. EDH let's me just live out my CCG fantasies and just play really fun cards that your run-of-the-mill "Spike" would scoff at.

I have three decks, which change constantly, but here they are:

Mayael, the Anima: Cheat in big creatures
Thraximundar: Zombie/Control
Darien: Soldiers and Equipment

I also tend to get competitive with my builds, relative to EDH of course.

In regards to online play, I've dabbled with both the original and the now abandoned OCTGN 2. It was pretty, it worked well, but it only supported constructed play at the time when I played it. It's sad, because I love chaos drafts. I'd consider Lacky if others did and someone demonstrated how to get it to work.

Spoiler:
or Shade and I can play in his basement. Intense.
