MS Word Trouble
A few weeks ago whenever I attempted to open a file in Word by going to the Open menu, the program would freeze and I would send an error report. Eventually I decided to click on the link you sometimes get after you submit the report and was directed to a Microsoft page that told me to download some updates. I did and it worked fine for awhile.
Now all of a sudden whenever I go to the Open or Save As menu, I can not change the folder. I click on that little arrow to get to the folder with the file I want and the program freezes every time. I downloaded more updates but it keeps on freezing. What is going on? Can anybody help? Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |

Try the Office repair function if you still have the installation files/CDs.
Or try uninstalling and reinstalling it all together. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Funny you should bring this up, as we were just having a remarkably similar problem at work today. We had a whole bunch of machines that suddenly exhibited this same behavior after getting a recent (critical) update. A few questions: are you able to open documents by double clicking on them from within Windows Explorer (or open URL's from within IE?) Also, do you have any scanner software (HP in particular) or Kerio Personal Firewall? Also look in your task manager for multiple (or even single) instances of the process "verclsid.exe" (which are central to this problem.)
Once we discovered this MS article we were able to repair the issue. So far, that had completely fixed it for us. We just had to apply the registry change and reboot the machine. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Yeah, we had one workstation that I know of have this problem. It would have been helpful to have known about that MS article last Thursday. Glad I had a half-day on Thursday and a vacation day on Friday so I didn't have to run that rabbit.
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? I didn't say I wouldn't go fishin' with the man.
All I'm sayin' is, if he comes near me, I'll put him in the wall. |
