If I had to pick out of all the games I've owned, there's this really neat Kirby title called Kirby Canvas Curse that you'd probably love. It's one of the few games that really makes the most use out of the stylus without feeling like a cheap tack-on to an already made game. It's a blast.

How ya doing, buddy?

If I think I know you well enough, I cannot recommend puzzle games enough.

Professor Layton series are pretty good, and you may find Picross enjoyable along with the 3D iteration.

But yet somehow you strike me as a Civilization fan too, I could also recommend Dawn of Discovery (its on the light, narrow, easy side but its fun). And remembering that you liked Might and Magic, you may find Dark Spire and Orcs & Elves enjoyable too. How I wish they'd continue the Ultima series or somehow remake them... they'd be awesome on the DS.

And then there's the staple Mario & Luigi trio that were fun.

But all this doesn't matter as long as you have this in your DS I'm sure.

Suikoden Tierkreis is pretty good and I second Tails' nomination for the Kirby game (Called Power Paintbrush over here). Prof Layton is ok but the puzzles can get a bit samey and most aren't tough enough for the game to be truly engaging, although to be fair I've only played the first one. Also you should get at least one Pokemon game really.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Lurk:

The Phoenix Wright games are excellent. The story telling is decent and quite humorous at several parts. The puzzle-solving aspect is decent though a bit rough at times (there will be times where you'll just pick different items during a court case, finally pick the right one, and find that the actual item barely connects to the case without a lot of convincing by the main character). Note that these are becoming tough to find.

The New Super Mario Bros is also excellent. It is similar to its Wii counterpart. It brings back a lot of old-school Mario with a slightly new twist here and there.

The Legacy of Ys 1 and 2 are also nice. I played only the first game, but it is an overall easy game to get into. Well, if you're not me and go out into the world facing everyone without your sword anyway...

The Mario RPGs are also fairly good. I only played the first one a little bit but it felt decent. The second one is on my backlog. I have heard that one is more difficult. At least try the first one.

Mario Kart is pretty fun as well. Keep in mind that people will tear you up most likely in online play.

The Final Fantasy III and IV remakes are also decent. FFIII has lots of customization while FFIV does a nice job remaking the game.

If you must have a RPG in your collection, then The World Ends With You is a solid choice.

No Contra 4? I am sad

It's Contra 4. Virt does the music.

YouTube Video

For each silly localization renaming of a character, they put them in as a new selectable character. So you got Lance and Bill, but also Mad Dog, Scorpion, Probotector and Jimbo and Sully. Plus characters from Hard Corps and Shattered Soldier.

And the original NES game and sequel are unlockable bonuses

Infinite Space is pretty damn awesome. It's a space faring RPG where you buy up to five ships for your fleet (ranging from small ships to big ass destroyers), outfit them with all manner of kitchens, engine rooms, holds, medical bays and the sort and go off exploring the universe.

The story span over ten years, there's a huge cast of characters and the space combat is relatively simple but never a cakewalk. And it was co-made by Nude Maker, who worked on the Steel Battalion games~

Osu Tatake Ouendan is basically the best rhythm action game around. The gameplay is essentially you tapping the touch screen to the tune of the music, tapping the correct sequence out. The wonderful presentation and excellent song selection go a huge way in making it so good, but if you specifically have issues with japanese lyrics, you could try Elite Beat Agents, tho the original is BETTER.
Who doesn't want to be a part of cheerleading squad suddenly appearing from someone's closet to cheer them on when they're having trouble with exams? OSU!

EDIT:
Did someone mention Scribblenauts? WHY NOT

Scribblenauts or Super Scribblenauts, both are lovely. You type in a word and it pops into the game as object. Solve platforming and puzzle levels. Dick around. Put up santa claus to fight dracula. Original game has a bit more freeform structure and freedom to solve the levels, while Super has dpad controls for platforming, and gentlemanly red velociraptors with monocles and top hats. And friendly rainbow Cthulhus.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

The Cooking Mama games are good time wasters. I like that you can play for a few minutes or hours and not worry about saving or having to redo things. There are other Mama games like gardening and crafting or something. I dunno if they're good since I never played them. They're probably just like the coking ones but you pull weeds and paint. Stuff like that.

You should also get Hotel Dusk - Room 315. It has some nice puzzles and the presentation is very unique. The story is great and so is the mood it creates. I've gone back and replayed mine like five, maybe six times. Not sure you can find it now though. it was kind of rare even when it came out.Maybe on ebay? But if you play I think you'll say the search was woth it.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Excellent work, guys! I already have Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story (it is SO AWESOME), Scribblenauts (It's fun but I guess I'm not very creative cause I got a bunch of brain farts in a lot of places ) and Etrian Odyssey. I'll check out some of the other titles you guys've been saying too, cause it's about time to buy a couple more gaems.
