I believe a thread title correction is in order.
Yeah, my bad.

Than again, would it have been so hard to vote, nominate, and THEN point out the horrible flaw? I mean, might as well kill multiple birds while stones are being thrown

Getting comments and votes in before life gets too hectic.

Escape from Delirium (Game Rip) - Fade to dark really does sound like it's from a game called 'Escape from Delirium'. I like the gentle and scratchy build and the breathing effects, it all makes a somewhat hypnotic sound.

Infiltrator - Infiltrator is also high quality music. The drive and thick synth work keeps me very interested throughout.

Nervous Brickdown (Game Rip) - Paper (Stage) is wonderfully creative, and infectiously memorable. Nothing but good things to say about this one, I'll definitely be listening to it again.

Niizuma wa Sailor Fuku ~My Darling is the Teacher in Charge~ Original Soundtrack - Jump is actually a tiny bit underwhelming after those first three tracks. But still, it's a very engaging track from Kikuta, and is the bright spark from an otherwise terribly mundane score.

nouvelle vague -G.S.M. Taito 7- - Rising is middling, and a bit of a letdown after the first four tracks. The guitar noodling is a bit too reserved for my liking, while the percussion has too much prominence. It all sounds a tad messy too.

The Book of Unwritten Tales (Game Rip) - Gnome Theme is such an orion SotW nomination. Whimsical orchestral stuff like this is usually fairly agreeable, occassionally with a nice melodic ring to it. This one succeeds in the former category though is lacking in the latter. Pleasant if inconsequential overall though.

The Witcher (Game Rip) - The Witcher Theme is solid, but the composition doesn't get to explore its true potential in my opinion. There's something a bit off about the fiddle-guitar layering at the end, too; could've been much more effective.

Trouble Witches AC -Daughters of Amalgam- Soundtrack - Rondo of the Frozen Whales (Stage03) is boring, and just doesn't do anything of note during it's near-5 minute duration.

POINTS

2 points: Nervous Brickdown (Game Rip) - Paper (Stage)
2 points: Niizuma wa Sailor Fuku ~My Darling is the Teacher in Charge~ Original Soundtrack - Jump
1 point: Infiltrator - Infiltrator
1 point: Escape from Delirium (Game Rip) - Fade to dark
5th: The Book of Unwritten Tales (Game Rip) - Gnome Theme
6th: The Witcher (Game Rip) - The Witcher Theme
7th: Trouble Witches AC -Daughters of Amalgam- Soundtrack - Rondo of the Frozen Whales (Stage03)
8th: nouvelle vague -G.S.M. Taito 7- - Rising

Pretty good week, though the first four are much better than the others. I must get this Nervous Brickdown gamerip from Drakken.

I was speaking idiomatically.

lollllllllllllllllllllll by the way guys

Also I have a potential nom for the Famous Game Obscure Name week: the regular boss theme (Koopa Junior) from Super Mario World, but I fear it's still too popular for this contest. What do you all think?
I personally don't remember what this track sounds like off the top of my head, but I'm sure once I listen to 0.2 seconds of it I'll slam my head against the table and yell very loudly asking how I could've forgotten that track.

Anyway, does anyone else want to weigh in on that track? If it's a no, then we're still short one nom.

Also here is a Nomination:
  • Album: Marching Grass on the Hill
  • Artist: Acoustic Asturias, Misa Kitatsuji
  • Composer: Yoh Ohyama
  • Disc #: 1 (of 1)
  • Track #: 4
  • Track Title: Waterfall
  • Catalogue Number: IOCD-20184
  • Year: 2006
  • Additional Info: If every Acoustic Asturias composition were this good, they would rule the world. PROGRESSIVE CHAMBER MUSIC

2 Pts.} Niizuma wa Sailor Fuku ~My Darling is the Teacher in Charge~ Original Soundtrack - Jump
- I really loved the chords on this track. The fast keyboard gave this a sound that was really enjoyable to me, and once the bells went with the fast scale it sounded even more enjoyable. I also enjoyed the calmer section with more fading type sounds on the keyboard along with the flute. I definitely enjoyed the percussion as well. Throughout a really neat contrast of a fast pace and calmer feel.

2 Pts.} Escape from Delirium (Game Rip) - Fade to dark
- I really enjoyed the feel this had with all of the reversed voice sounding effects going through so much of this. The panning also really appealed to me the way it was done here. I definitely enjoyed the gradual build up, the sudden but subtle tempo changes were interesting to listen to rhythmically.

1 Pt.} nouvelle vague -G.S.M. Taito 7- - Rising
- I like the detuned melody on the guitar. The very sporadic percussion part is pretty interesting to listen to. I also like the interesting mix of instruments that gradually become noticeable through the different sections. This rhythmically is pretty interesting to me. Definitely a fun track.

1 Pt.} Trouble Witches AC -Daughters of Amalgam- Soundtrack - Rondo of the Frozen Whales (Stage03)
- That main synth bell ostinato throughout was pretty cool, and I loved the sound choice in general. The contrast of the percussion with the rest at the beginning was cool to me. I also really enjoyed the vibrato and portamentos in the melody. There is a subtle fast arpeggio part in the synth that I particularly like the fit of in this as well.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Very quick votes for a surprisingly nice week.

(2 points) Infiltrator - Infiltrator

(2 points) The Witcher (Game Rip) - The Witcher Theme

(2 points) Trouble Witches AC -Daughters of Amalgam- Soundtrack - Rondo of the Frozen Whales (Stage03)

I feel terrible for not giving points to the following:
- The Book of Unwritten Tales (Game Rip) - Gnome Theme
- Niizuma wa Sailor Fuku ~My Darling is the Teacher in Charge~ Original Soundtrack - Jump
- Nervous Brickdown (Game Rip) - Paper (Stage)

hella close: Escape from Delirium (Game Rip) - Fade to dark, Infiltrator - Infiltrator

Rising, where have you been all of my life? I don't even like the original music from the Rastan series very much, but jeeeeeeez. Great to see more Kozo Suganuma up in this here Song of the Week weekly song contest, I love that guy.

Rondo of the Frozen Whales is admittedly a minute and a half longer than it has to be, so I'm glad a few of you enjoyed it. It does a lot of stuff I like.

Best track from a not-Soukaigi Kikuta OST? You bet.

Oh my god Rising is the coolest thing ever

that intro, my god

and that ending chord

everything, from start to finish, sooooo cool

3 points: Rising
2 point: Infiltrator
1 point: Rondo of the Frozen Whales (Stage03)
Just Missed: Jump, Gnome Theme, Fade to dark
what the: Fade to dark

This week is a standout even among a group of standout weeks.

Kikuta is a dude and I really, really like Jump, but even if he fixed that out-of-tune bass at 0:12 (which is hilarious), there is no way I could offer it a point, because the top 3 tracks are just too good.

EDIT: Also about the SMW nom, I feel that the boss theme is one of the tracks that everyone is familiar with, just like every single track from the game, but noone notices it's worth as an actual tune that's worth listening to. In my opinion it's brilliantly composed, and I only realized this after listening to it out of context recently.

I thought the Escape From Delirium track was a lock for points when I started listening, but those three songs are just wow good. Another week with great selections.

Looks like we still need Nom #8 for the theme week. If nobody mans up, I say we count Tails' suggestion here as an official nom and add Honeybee Manor to the list.
