Attention PSN Users - Your Information Just Got Stolen
![]() Guess what? Sony screwed up big time, and someone now has your information! Just which information?
GOOD JOB SONY! ![]() Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I don't see how this is some INSANE issue. Okay, having all that credit card information (if the hacker(s) have it, I don't see how since theres been CC encryption since the advent of online purchasing) is fucking horrible and Sony is never going to get back the level of trust they once had.
But pretty much EVERYTHING ELSE IS A MATTER OF PUBLIC RECORD. And whoop-de-fucking-do that some guy might have my PSN password because THAT REALLY MEANS SOMETHING IF THE NETWORK IS SHUT DOWN. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
That's absolutely true. The CC issue is a big one, though, and people having your PSN password means something for those people (like me, formerly) that use the same password for everything.
More than anything I'm just letting people know so that regardless of how much they care they know what went out there. It's inexcusable that they spent a week pretending nothing drastic happened. Up until today all we'd heard was that there was "an intrusion" and it was made to sound like they'd just taken the network down, not actually taken shit. How ya doing, buddy? |
However, a lot of people online are super alarmist and like to see people wave their arms so THEY know how to react. You have to be careful about the precedent you set when you open threads like this. Acting like the place is on fire is only going to make people think its the smart thing to do. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
Well, I suppose I sounded a bit more alarmist than I intended. More than anything I'm trying to come across as mad. I just came off of redoing EVERYTHING after Gawker got hacked and subsequently revealed to be absolutely incompetent chucklefucks, and I'm mad that Sony took as long as they did to reveal that the possibility of the information being stolen exists.
I'd just rather see the information get spread quickly so everyone who cares enough to go the full nine yards with protecting their info gets the headsup. I was speaking idiomatically. |
Yeah, I'm sad I have to change my passwords to everything now. I don't even remember all the shit I used that password for.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
I think I may have had a PSN account with them, but I never used it for anything other then downloading a game or two for my PSP back in the day. At the same time though, better safe then sorry. I'll be changing my info whenever the network goes back up.
...and here I was contemplating getting a PS3 to play blu-rays with, with a couple games on the side as a bonus FELIPE NO ![]() |
Here's a source: Report: PSN hacked, custom firmware could pose security risk to users (UPDATED) Note that it's from 2 months ago What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

What a fucking mess. I never used my credit card on PSN, so there's that.
Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
Ahahaha holy shit I just realized
From that article 2 months ago:
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
The only possible way I can think of to check passwords is if you saved the password in your browser and used their site or store.playstation.com for anything. I'm lucky all mine are unique but still. That said, saw this via GAF. ![]() I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
What a clusterfuck of bullshit.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
Sony Shuts Down PlayStation Network Indefinitely - Digits - WSJ
Sony shuts down PSN indefinitely What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() |
LOL our card expires this month, so no biggie. SD went and changed all of his passwords though.
But wow @ indefinitely down psn. What a lame way to go. :\ I suppose we should give those psn cards a chance now? Jam it back in, in the dark. |
It's not down forever, it's down for the moment as they don't know when it's going back up. It's not gone. WSJ here is just being sensationalist. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
Words have multiple meanings. You know as well as I do that indefinite can be and often is used as a synonym for unlimited or endless. Especially in business speak. That headline is a touch misleading, yes.
A better one would have used indeterminate. But this is picking nits. There's a tonne of misinformation out there right now. Most amazing jew boots |
Something to consider, and a reason for everyone to change their passwords regardless of how insane you get over all of this:
If you have a CC tied with your PSN account, even if they don't have the CC info itself, they can log into PSN accounts with said CC info and rack up a huge CC bill in psn purchases. This is unlikely, but something to note. I was speaking idiomatically. |
Well, right now they can't, but should the service come back up, and people DON'T change their password, then yeah.
I think the bigger issue will be when the service does come back, and people don't change their security question. Or date of birth. Assuming Sony does not remove the option of resetting your password WITHOUT an email verification. Since you know, changing your password won't do much good if some dude has every other info one needs to reset the password. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
Dictionary How ya doing, buddy? ![]() |
I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm saying that the word is used often enough in other, obviously incorrect contexts that one can easily draw the wrong conclusion from it's usage.
Why is this rocket science for you? What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Man I didn't really want to reply but "being a pedant is not the same as being smart" doesn't fit into the tag editor? Well, bye.
