Game suggestions needed. Desperately.
Right so my brother got me a 360 this January, which was cool as I'd always wanted one. Cooler still was that it was a Gear of War special pack or something: came in a MASSIVE red box and both the Gears games. I literally cried when I first saw it. Far Cry 2 also came with (that was part of an offer at the particular store he bought it from). Awesome right?
Here's the depressingly embarrassing situation months later: I hardly play it. Its not that I don't want to, its that I seriously do not know what to play! I've beaten both the Gears games (twice), and played a bit of Assassin's Creed, but I quit on the latter on account of the fact that I've already played and beaten it. I think I have a copy Dead Space somewhere under a couch or something, but beyond that, I'm stumped. What do I PLAY?! I don't really read GameSpot or GameSpy or any other gaming publication as much as I once did and maybe thats why I'm completely lost. The console's been sitting pretty, eating dust for the past several months. And I am simply ashamed. And so I extend desperate mass-call for help: Help me, please. Gimme names of a few truly engaging games. They don't have to be strictly shooters. Hell, I'm so desperate I'll even play RPGs (something I don't really play much). Jam it back in, in the dark. {..:Void|dioV:..} + Minimalism. I likes. + ![]() |
I cant even get across in words how badly you need to play Saints Row 2.
That game made my year ![]() It's similar to GTA but... fun! it's fucking mad, the storyline's awsome and the character customisation is brilliant, i played the whole game through as a nutter version of David Bowie loved it. flat out loved it. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
One word. Prototype.
Of all the games I've played for the 360 that's the one I've enjoyed the most, and I only played it for about 15 minutes. Immensely fun and fluid gameplay, naturally I can't say much about the storyline but you only need to look for the Prototype thread on here and you'll understand why you should definately give it a shot. From what I understand it's a bit on the short side, but then again the lad who told me that played it non-stop for an entire day. Most amazing jew boots ![]() ![]() |
Action: Saint's Row 2 (excellent co-op, fun-ness, everything really)
Fighting: BlazBlue (Get a FightPad) Shooter: Call of Duty: MW (should be cheap, or get MW 2 in a few months) RPG: Star Ocean 4 (so-so RPG, but great time-eater) Sports: Madden 10 (Heard they finally made it good) Racing: Forza 2 (or wait for Forza 3) or Midnight Club 3 (dunno many other good non-sim racers out/coming, Need For Speed still isn't getting them right.) Mecha: Armored Core: For Answer (I suppose there isn't much competition...) Live Arcade: Geometry Wars 2, Puzzle Quest, Shadow Complex (all excellent time-eaters) Other: Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts (Seriously, it's pretty good.) Most amazing jew boots ![]() |
![]() Worth it for the obese lesbian cop with underaged hostage alone. Controls can be a bit annoying at times and herding survivors can be a chore, but this is gold through and through. Superbly atmospheric, fun and inventive, terrific open-ended structure with a helping of RPG elements with experience points, stats and new fighting moves. Multiple endings, tons of stuff to do and you get to fight an obese lesbian cop while in an armani suit and armed with a frying pan. Or a bowling ball. Or a houseplant. Or a servbot mask. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
I've still not played my copy of Dead Rising...
You should get Earth Defence Force 2017. It's out and out silly, shooting aliens fun. Almost completely brainless, hard as nails and generally a great fun game. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() ![]() |
Left 4 Dead.
Secret of Monkey Island HD. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a commie. FELIPE NO ![]() John Mayer just asked me, personally, through an assistant, to sing backup on his new CD. |
Get on Live and download Braid, Monkey Island SE and Shadow Complex.
RPG, get Vesperia. Star Ocean 4 is a massive time-sink (but the story still sucks). If you're into action however, the newly released Arkham Asylum is mad fun. Play that Dead Space; that's another good title. Some here told Saints' Row 2; that's also fun. Prototype is a tad bit short; rent it first. Same with Wolverine: Origins. If you're into racing or cars in general, you can't go wrong with Burnout: Paradise or GRID. Fighting was mentioned: BlazBlue. Or Street Fighter 4 if that's your thing. Shooters (if you play it here) include Modern Warfare, Wolfenstein (rent only), Orange Box (best bang for your buck, honestly) and so much more. Music games? Rock Band and its sequel. Do get it. If you're still stumped, check out Metacritic and look for games there. Look at the top hits or specific genres of you're choosing and look at the high marks. It should tell you what to get and such. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() |
Wow, thanks guys! All of you!
I already have Prototype for the PC. Played it for 5 minutes and was seriously unimpressed. I could clearly tell it just wasn't for the PC. I suppose I'll give it a shot on the 360. Braid, again I have this for the PC. LOVE IT! The music is awesome as is the general game design. I haven't played much of it yet though. Playing a lot of indie stuff on my PC these days, and this one's sitting pretty right now. @Yushiro: Nice. Good suggestions mate. I'm definitely getting Banjo-Kazooie. And I'm alreadyw aiting for CoD: MW2. ![]() @Qwarky: You had me at "lesbian". xD Seriously though, thanks for this. I actually knew about this one, but forgot about it. Once again, thank you all. I've got the ball rolling now. If I need more, well, now I know where to come. ![]() Most amazing jew boots {..:Void|dioV:..} + Minimalism. I likes. + ![]() |
If an 360 magically appeared in my mail one day, there's a few Xbox exclusive things I would get my dirty grubs on right away personally:
- Dead Rising. As already mentioned. Because damn. From the marketplace: - Worms 2: Armageddon. Great when having friends over. - Turtles in Time Reshelled. Might be great for a run-through too. A few other non-exclusive games I don't see mentioned above, that you might want to check out some reviews from: - BioShock - The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Fallout 3 - Mass Effect - Lost Planet Tons of great games out there. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Oh yeah, anyone who owns a 360 and hasn't played Crackdown needs to seriously take a good, long look at their life and reasses their priorities. Easily one of the best games on the system, if not any system.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() ![]() |
Flatout: Ultimate Carnage doesn't have much in the way of a storyline, but it sure is fun! Most amazing jew boots |

It's actually more like Prototype than anything else. Less emphasis on missions like GTA, and more just running around killing things indiscriminately.
Crackdown: Firepower + Insane jumping (but falls can hurt you), includes online multiplayer Prototype: Melee attacks + Gliding (almost flying), no multiplayer What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
I generally hate open world games because many sandbox games end up feeling very disjointed and what you do incidental and thus insignificant (there are exceptions of course).
Crackdown however, had me from the get go. There's not much plot, but you have clear cut goals and a wonderful multitude of ways of reaching them. Eliminate the three ruling gang lords. To get to them, you must first locate and eliminate each gang's sergeants and generals. So you explore the city, locating arms caches, helping local law enforcement fight back criminals and find clues to your targets' locations. It's very simple and all the more entertaining for that. Once you locate your target, it's up to you how you want to take them down. Run in the front door guns blasing, or sneak around the back, or climb up the building itself and infiltrate from the roof, etc. It's one of the most enjoyable games this console generation. The scale is massive, the action and structure focused, fun and satisfying. It's all about accomplishents and reward. The more you explore and discover orbs, the better your athletic abilities get, enabling you to run at high speed and jump ridiculous distances. The more you use explosives, your skill and power with them upgrades. Same for weapon accuracy, physical strength (lift cans, then criminals, then cars, then trucks) and vehicle handling. Hell, as your driving ability goes up, the agency vehicles physically transform to improved versions. There is nothing like boosting your agility a little and getting to the point where you can start jumping from building to building in massive leaps. Excellent fun in co-op too. And climbing the agency tower is one of those magical moments in videogame fantastico. FELIPE NO ![]()

If you've had any interest in the Dynasty Warriors games there is Warrior Orochi 2 and Dynasty Warriors 6 Empires.
Left 4 Dead. Even if you're saying to yourself "I really don't need anymore shooters." At least rent Left 4 Dead. If you're into Super Hero games you may want to look into Batman Arkham Asylum or Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 which will be out soon. I'd say Watchmen but I accept that I'm generally the only person in the world who likes the game. If you like fighting games Soul Calibur IV and Street Fighter IV are definately worth getting. If you're interested in older games, there are a number of collection discs available for the system including Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection. As for RPGs, I can't really recommend any since the only one I've played is Blue Dragon and with how much everyone seems to hate it, I'd say download the demo before considering it. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Who is everyone, out of curiousity?
Blue Dragon (xbox360) reviews at Metacritic.com Metacritic says 79, and generally favourable. That's the same metascore as Vesperia, and just about the same as every other JRPG on the platform. I'd go so far as to reduce BD to one question though. "If you don't mind traditional, you can't really go wrong". There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I liked Blue Dragon. Just takes a bit to get going. Same with Kameo, which I highly recommend if you like adventure style games in the manner of Zelda, banjo, etc (just don't stop playing before you end the tutorial level). The visuals still hold up today for a launch title like many RARE games. Nuts and Bolts is good too, but you might be better off getting Kazooie and Tooie. Depends on your likes.
Also the Chronicles of Riddick for a single player stealth action rpg shooter. If you like feeling like the ultimate badass, you can't go wrong. You get two campaigns for about 10 hours each. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
I'm actually downloading the demo was Arkham Asylum for the PC. If I like it, and I have a feeling I just might, I'll definitely get it.
I've also played Left 4 Dead, but only a little. Thing is, here in Pakistan, there's not much multiplayer gaming to be had. Sure, there's LAN-gaming cafe's and a few ISP-exclusive game servers, but thats hardly much. Lesser still for consoles, if even at all. I could connect to foreign servers (and I once used to) but I would (and I did) get crap pings. Anyway, the names are piling up now. So far I've finalized Dead Space and Dead Rising. I'm having just a wee bit trouble tracking them however seeing as how my console's PAL and these games, although available in stores, are available in NTSC. I'll be playing 'em in a day or two some way or the other though. Always how it is. ![]() Thanks a bunch-load guys. Keep 'em coming. I'll need more games when I'm dine with these. xD I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? {..:Void|dioV:..} + Minimalism. I likes. + ![]() |
If you have a PAL console, you should look into places like play.com. I mostly buy my PAL games there, since they cost like half the prices of games in stores over here.
I'm incidentally getting Arkham Asylum for the PC. I tried the PS3 demo, and then tried the PC demo to see how it runs on my computer. It runs extremely well with full detail, looks better and smoother, and has in-game support for my 360 pad so I immediately ordered the PC version. Shame it not release for almost another month. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
