okay... WHAT.

So since last night, apparently, I have been unable to save .exe files to my desktop or install anything I want to install, because my computer--running on Vista--doesn't recognize the file as a valid "win32" file or prompts me to say that I do not have valid permissions to run the program.

The programs I downloaded and are trying to install is Open Office and Itunes. The files save to my desktop (as I have all things saved there). I do not understand why these files will not run or why my computer is being a decided piece of shit lately.

Window's recently went through another upgrade a few days ago and I wonder if that is the problem, and if it is, I'm unsure how to bypass all the security checks it has to go through in order for things to fucking run.

If anyone has any idea what the problem could be, I would appreciate the help

edit: here are some screencaps of the problem I am having.

Open the control panel, open the user accounts pane, try turning user account control off. Or on, if it's already off. Does that change anything?

There's nowhere I can't reach.

It was already off, so I turned it on and restarted. No change. Turned it off and restarted. No change :|

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Have you tried seeing if the installers run from within safe mode?

Also, fire up task manager, have a gander at the "processes" pane, and see if there's anything there that shouldn't be there.

Do all already installed programs still work? Or have they stopped as well?

Also, yeah, Try running them in safe mode and doing the stuff Krel said.

do you have any firewall software that you recently installed that you might have tripped up? I installed one, click on the wrong option, and despite being admin had virtually no rights to do anything.

I recall having this sort of problem on a Windows XP computer. I don't recall what exactly I did to make it act that way, but I think it had something to do with either a lousy Windows Update or a crazy Java Runtime update.

After doing a full chkdsk (to ensure that the hard disk isn't failing) and after unsuccessfully trying to resolve it with a system restore rollback and a repair install, I finally reformatted the computer.
