Art thread. Organize later.

Your Melody
What I've been slaving over the past few days.
Bless Into the Sunshine
One of the only colored pieces in my entire portfolio. Done with colored pencils on a copy of a pencil sketch.

Maybe if I ever scan my older stuff, I'll post it. We'll see how things go.

"You’re Melody"
The character looks nice, although there are some proportion issues here, specifically, their arm looks a bit longer then they needed to be. Generally, one shouldn't be able to reach down their knee when standing up right, and the elbow, I think, should be slightly above the waist-line. I am not sure how you build up your character, but its difficult to get a sense that there are bodies underneath those clothing’s.

“Bless into the sunshine”
Compositional wise, this piece is a world of better then the first one. The pose is dynamic, there is a background, and it is colored. There is same type of proportional problem here especially with the guy in the foreground. There are some little different problems here and there, particularly the right hand of the guy in the background. You might want to do some sketch practice using your own hand as a reference to work out these anatomic problems.

The character looks pretty interesting, are those original?

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Thanks for the comments. I've been struggling with anatomy but I'm gradually coming to get it. Compared to my work last year, even I can't disagree that these are worlds better.

All of my work is original design. I very rarely do any fanart at all. I do use existing characters for inspiration, but I try to keep everything as close to me as I can.

Sketch Page
A fart from my mind. Nothing special. Tried to make the lines more solid in Photoshop. Didn't work.

Harusaki Sentimental
Tried once again for the lines. Once again, didn't work. I really just need to draw cleaner pictures if I ever want to CG.

For You
Clean scan, no digital mess. Took a few days.

All of these are pretty old. Pretty much scanned some random stuff from my sketchbook. Becoming less and less proud of my work.

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

Those are done in pencil right? do you push down on the paper really hard? Have you tried differentiating the line weight between sketch lines and finalized lines? As in, do very very light sketches that outlines the shapes of characters, laying down simple guidelines, and when it comes to the actual drawing of character itself, instead you would use a very precise heavy lines to finish up. It makes it easier to clean up afterward. If all else fails, you might want to ink it and go over it with eraser like Steadtlers for example, and then scanning it.

On "for you"
One character looks a little bigger then the other, its subtle though. It seem to be dividing the images right down the middle. The dark shading for the robot is pretty nice.

What do you mean you are "becoming less and less proud" of your own work? Even though you are getting better as you practice, that doesn't mean keeping those older images is any less valuable. Its a documentation of how you had learn to get better at something. Its like foot prints of a long journey. If you were to go back and review what you have done in the past, its easier to assess how you had become better in the future

I was speaking idiomatically.

Its not necessarily that I draw hard, I think. I draw lightly, but I draw everything in a sketchy fashion, several lines defining one thing. I do also draw hard sometimes. I guess all the lines eventually add up, especially when I'm cleaning up, I tend to go over the actual outline very hard. I use a variety of erasers, I have a little collection, you could say. I guess I need to practice drawing lighter.

Thanks, this piece actually inspired me to draw "Bless Into The Sunshine" and "Harusaki Sentimental" and a bunch of other things I haven't scanned. I spent so long on it and I was pleased with the results. The left character, Avalon, is a bit smaller than the character on the right, Roiz. Noticed it for a while, but not much I can do now that its finalized.

I'm surrounded by artists all the time. I go to an arts school and made friends with all the art majors. I also constantly browse artist websites. I guess its just everything getting to me. I haven't drawn in a while, so it'll probably disappear when I draw something that I'm satisfied with. I understand where you're coming from completely. Thanks a lot!

You dont exactly go into much detail with shadows and lighting but you still have talent. Your character designs are not exactly unique but they are drawn very nicely.
Keep it up, i'd like to see some of your newer stuff

First person to say my designs aren't unique, interesting. Thanks for the comments, though. I can do shadowing and lighting but most of my pieces are designed with color in mind, so I try not to get into too much detail with my pencil, as it makes for a messy scan. Of course they're messy anyway, but you know.

Roiz
Done today (04/25). Just a quick sketch. Nothing special.

Ruin The Purity

Something I did today when I got home. Not my daily sketch, but still very rough sketch form. I'm planning on fixing the anatomical problems and inking it to make it an actual piece instead of junk sketches.

Meaningless

"A body that has lost its reason,
A soul without a body,
The difference between this and death is nonexistant"

Really old. Not dated but this is from early February, probably.

Shoot Down The Sky

Followed Bless Into The Sunshine, supposed to be a version of it with the villains of this story. I couldn't fit the third person that I wanted in though, and I couldn't decide which of the two other characters I wanted, so I just kind of gave it up.

Look for more work tomorrow. I colored 0425 Roiz and another picture with colored pencil, as well as did a sketch today, but I haven't scanned them. I'll probably draw/color a few things tomorrow too so if I get around to it there'll be lots of new stuff.

Also, you can go to http://www.designdraft.net/ and click Illust to see my paintchat junk and oekaki doodles. Don't feel like linking them here. They're colored, so maybe you'll wanna take a look?
