Synaesthesia has never been so easily attained!

While 4chan is generally the bane of the Internet's existence, occasionally something really awesome can be found there. Case in point, this really neat program KeyBored. It takes your keypresses and turns them into MUSIC! ALSO YES I UNDERSTAND THIS IS NOT TECHNICALLY SYNAESTHESIA. I was thinking along the lines of "This text LOOKS like gibberish but is actually music!"

Overall this is actually really neat, and the best part is that since you're typing the songs, you can present seemingly random bits of gibberish to people and they can play music! =o

For instance: (- indicates you should hold the note, since it doesn't play anything when you type it you can also just type the -'s since when I write them I try to keep the same tempo throughout. KEEP IN MIND IT IS CASE SENSITIVE.) These are all once that I've done by ear.

...And holy crap. This is the first actually TYPING using this program [aside from just playing a bunch of random music from this thread,] and I have to say that this is incredibly distracting... but also terribly amusing at the same time.

Also, is anyone running this on Vista? I'm not sure if it's just me, but I don't actually get a PROGRAM interface of any sort when I run it. It runs in the background, and I can only close it through the Task Manager. How do I actually go about changing the instruments and such?

I've tried both exe files that come with it. The one that they tell you to run [keyboredrunner.exe] just opens a cmd window that immediately closes, and does nothing. No task to shut down, even.

The other one, keybored.exe is the one that 'works', but I don't get any interface, as described in the previous post. I've tried setting compatibility modes, too.

Posting on message boards is now a MUSICAL ADVENTURE. Next he needs to add output logging...yeah you can use Notepad or something, but it'd be nice to have it built-in. BTW, if anyone's interested in saving these to MIDI, AnvilStudio has a similar setup (you'll have to tweak the keyboard settings to get the notes to match KeyBored charts) and can record your output to MIDI.

And people wonder why the Concert Hall is so obsessed with sheet music...
