Good burning software?

Hey guys does anyone have recommendation of dvd/cd burning software? All the time I use CDburn xp pro which actually good enough, the problem is, I sometime burn data with original japanese filenames and somehow the information become lost after burning process.

Does anyone know any burning software that could retain the original unicode (?) in filenames?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

It can? What version of Nero? I use 6.6.0.3 still and it doesn't preserve my Japanese filenames. It's a pain in the ass, too. I usually end up RARing the file to some English filename first. The romanised version of the name, maybe...

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

If you set the Language for non-Unicode programs (Regional and Language Options --> Advanced Tab) to Japanese, and burn while it's enabled, your filenames should not turn to gibberish.

No idea if they turn to gibberish once you disable said setting. (That setting is irritating since it changes all instances of backslash \ into Yen signs.)

How ya doing, buddy?

actually I have set up my locale into japanese. The only nero I have in my pc is Nero Express 7.5.13.1 I havent tried it because I dont have spare DVD-rw. I usually use gbaker in ubuntu to burn dvd, but yesterday I somehow lost japanese support at my ubuntu and decided not to burn using gbaker before I could figure out what went wrong.

I just downloaded ashampoo burning software today, I will try it and will report whether it could preserve unicode.

Nero's horrible in my experience. It's caused BSoD's, bloated, etc. Won't touch that crap ever again.
imgburn is free and seems perfectly fine. but I don't burn enough stuff to care a whole lot what I use.

I recommend you to use Ashampoo burning software (version 8), it keeps the japanese file names perfectly

Not a new feature (introduced in v.2), but the interface is admittedly clunky compared to Nero...

Still, Nero has become bloatware, I agree with Cam. I'm now on the hunt for a good alternative.

As megalith said, I'm pretty sure imgburn supports burning data/audio in the version i tried. I don't remember though.

Imhburn has all the basic functions you need, and is absolutely free

as a sidenote, stay away from Final Burner.

I've used IrfanRecorder quite a lot. I've used it to burn files and images for DVDs. It works quite well.
