Not a computer problem... DVD player

DVDs have region codes (1 is America) and DVD players (even PS2s) only play certain region codes. This is preventing me from buying certain concerts (BoA, Ayumi) because they are all 2s and 3s. Is there any way to change a region code? Or is it pretty permanent?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

You can buy region-free DVD players, obtain a region-hack for your DVD-ROM on your PC, or use DVD-Region X on your PS2. Tell us what your favoured option from that list is, and then we can provide further information.

The Philips DVP 642 DVD player is region free, also plays divx files out of the box.

Can't you burn a copy of the DVD with AnyDVD and remove the region code making the DVD a region-free disc? That's what I did.

You can but those concert audio discs have huge audio files which usually have a kbps of 1536. Compressing it to a DVD5 disc would be an utter waste of time being that Chyna~Girl plans on purchasing these discs.

Some DVDs have a region changer function, but it usually lasts for 5 changes only. After that it locks up and you can never do it again.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

If you have your PS2 modded with a modchip such as the Matrix Infinity, it will become region free.

You can always get a util or firmware that's region free (like AnyDVD, just crack the thing and you'll be able to play DVDs from anywhere). Also there are ways to reset the Windows/DVD-ROM region change count.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

But these ways involve the possibility of bricking your DVD, so I guess they shouldn't be used unless necessary.

Actually I got this utility (link broken) and changed the region mode with no fuss and no breakdowns (my DVD-ROM was a Sony DDU1613).

Be warned don't use this utility unless you have the exact DVD drive this utility was built to use. I listed it for reference purposes only.

It won't be easy to use a utility that can't be downloaded, so everyone is safe.

for now~
