Suggest a Video Capture Program

So I just got a USB Video Adapter for Composite/S-Video connections (EasyCap if you were curious) and I need to find a program that doesn't suck for capture and recording.

I'm currently using bundled software Ulead VideoStudio 10 for all capturing, and this works fine only when it wants to. Every other time it likes to think there's no source when I can clearly see the source on screen.

Can anybody recommend a better one? Or should I stick with what I have?

I went through a lot of programs to try to capture some videos from my ps3. Only thing I really had to begin with was media center but it was buggy, it had like a 3 second lag. This was just me though, others not so much.
I also tried Dscaler but its so damn buggy and it'll take a while to figure out. Once you open this program theres no avoiding a restart to get your stuff working again.
I just settled with Virtualdub. It has a very simple capture option and the videos turn out very nice. I've already used it plenty of times to capture gameplay and such and you could always use it again to compress your videos. Plus its free.
So VirtualDub worked the best for me. You may want to try it out despite the fact that you have to capture in a small screen. it's usually recommended that you use the software bundled with your capture card though.

I've actually tried VirtualDub.

The issue I have with it is that I can't see what I'm recording on the same screen. It turns to a mess of green for me, though the resulting video is good. I really don't want to use y-splitters to put it on a TV on the side. Maybe I'll tinker around with that a bit more.

If nothing else, I'll just use the bundled software and find a way to consistently get it to record without issues. Really though, the software just doesn't want to work all the time. When it does work, it seems to work well, though the raw capture is slightly odd because capturing the video has a slight lag before it starts...which the audio doesn't. So what I end up with is audio only at 0:00.00 and then video joins in at 0:06.85. This is an annoying issue because under most video players (VLC, and unfortunately, Virtualdub), it'll force both to start at the same time, so the audio ends up being behind by 7 seconds (though VirtualDub acknowledges the issue, it just does nothing to fix it). Other video players (unfortunately for me, my main player: Media Player Classic) catch the issue and holds the first frame of the video until the audio catches up, and then the two are synced. But this seems completely random, which makes sharing the videos difficult. (Youtube handles the video like VLC and VDub for me, with an unsynced audio.)

I uploaded a work-around for that, but it's still not without issues.

With this video, I separated the audio from the video stream and edited the audio with Audacity to cut off the first 7 seconds of audio, and then re-pasted it back onto a no-sound version of the video. This syncs it, but if you watch to the end, you'll see the sound cuts off early, reason being that, oddly enough, the two streams are equal length, which I found odd if the video and sound end at the same time and the sound starts 7 seconds earlier. I'm going to investigate this a bit further.

Though if anybody knows of easy-to-use video capture software, I'm still open for recommendations.
