The beast that comes up FROM THE ABYSS will attack them, and overpower and kill them.

Aksys games (I think the only RPG they've brought over so far was Hoshigami Remix, right?) is bringing over an action RPG for DS called "From the Abyss."

Quote:
AKSYS GAMES ANNOUNCES FROM THE ABYSS COMING TO NINTENDO DS IN Q4 2008!

An Epic Multiplayer Action RPG on the Go!
Torrance, CA (April 22, 2008) – Aksys Games, a publisher of interactive entertainment software, is pleased to announce From The Abyss, an action RPG exclusively for Nintendo DS™! Developed by Sonic Powered, players will be able to explore the vast world of Rubenhaut through a unique world creation engine exclusively created for From The Abyss. The game also features an intuitive control scheme, lavish artwork, and an engaging 2 player co-op battle system.
“From the Abyss can be enjoyed by people who are new to the action RPG genre but challenging enough for experienced players alike”, said Nobara Ogawa, Project Lead, Aksys Games. “Regardless of your skill level, you’ll find yourself enthralled in the abyss.”

Key Features:
• Create your own unique Abyss!
Every time you start a brand new journey, the game will randomly generate a custom world that will give you a unique experience every time!

• Customize your character!
Distribute your skill points that define your character’s powers and destiny. Will you go the way of the sword or be a powerful spell caster?

• Capture your enemy’s soul!
Steal the enemy’s techniques and use them to turn the tide of the battle!

• Co-op Mode!
Connect with a friend wirelessly and work together to defeat the Dark Lord of the Abyss!
(Images and trailer.)

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Tales of the Abyss sequel!!!

*reads opening post*

Or not...

Just saw the trailer and various screenies. Wow, it reminds me of Secret of Mana in the fighting department. Looks pretty fun, and the fact that my sister can play with me makes it even better. Let's hope this gets localized.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

That's what the thread is about ^_^
...Unless you were talking about Europe...

It's coming to North America in Q4 of this year.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I was thinking, "Wow! This looks awesome!" Then I took a look at the Japanese box art and noticed a distinct lack of the Wifi Connection Emblem.

There's a good handful of Action/RPGs like this that are pretty good and would be even better if they bothered to have online multiplayer. Immediately coming to mind is FF:CC and Soma Bringer. I'll give it a shot, but I hope the lack of multiplayer or a badly written teammate AI doesn't drag it down too much.

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

I hated the Japanese version due to lack of WFC, I have a feeling I'll hate the US version for the same reason.

I wonder if they'll fix New Game Plus so it's not stupidly worthless to bother with though.

I was speaking idiomatically.

D'oh! Thought this was about the JPN version.

Luckily I have someone living with me to play with. FF:CC is awesome in multiplayer, but yeah, online play would be nice too. Online Contra :(

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

My thoughts exactly. It's just so stupid. Why not add a multiplayer mode to a game like this? Action RPGs are some of the most fun games to play multiplayer IMO. I'll be giving this game a shot anyways, but the lack of multiplayer will probably pull down the overall rating.

But you can still have local multiplayer.
That's sufficient for me.
It seems that while stuff like Animal Crossing WW and Mortal Kombat might be doable online, the resources for having an online ARPG for the DS is a bit expensive and/or difficult, otherwise we'd see a lot more of it happening.

Did you play Crystal Chronicles DS? With 3 players, it gets noticeably laggy, and with 4, the framerate is downright awful, and this is coming from Square Enix, a company known for pumping its money into production value and appearance.

One day, the DS 2 or something will come along and have easy-to-maintain online co-op for ARPGs and other genres as well, and live voice-chat and all that, and that'll be cool. I guess we just have to wait :/

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?
