Some interesting stuff in development
http://tinyurl.com/edvyh
This is a pretty cool concept, even if it's basically still a prototype. Not sure how widespread this would be, but it certainly does make interesting use of technology. They're showing examples of how that technology works from Warcraft 3. I'd imagine that if this works for Starcraft, Koreans would go nuts over this. Most amazing jew boots |
Awesome!
I really like the idea of using my hands like that in strategy games, although I'm a bit skeptical to the voice commands. As the site author said, I wouldn't bear to talk to the table for a full game. Still awesome though. Most amazing jew boots |
I couldn't watch the video with sound, cause the computers at my school don't have speakers. From what i saw though, it looks quite amazing, and i'd be realy into this sort of thing for RTS games. It looks a little sluggish from just watching that video, but i'm sure things could be changed.
I wonder if this will catch on. Most amazing jew boots |
It looks to me like it's faster to use keyboard and mouse due to the hotkeys. There's too much of a delay with the voice commands. For example, I can press two and then right click to attack a lot faster than "unit 2 - attack - here".

This is pretty amazing, although for RTS specifically, although I'm no fan of the genre, doesn't that way of scrolling through the map (with your whole hand) seem really slow? There would probobly be a way to make it fast, so it's probobly just me...
I somehow can't see a huge tabletop like that being mainstream though, maybe for arcades and/or internet cafes perhaps, I'd make a visit to my local interent cafe for this kind of technology. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
That's pretty neat. Actually, I've done something similar with my college's "Smart Boards" (basically projectors that are displayed on a touch screen). Those basically allow touching on the screen to substitute for mouse input through Windows, so tapping your finger on the screen acted like clicking the mouse there, and holding your finger down and draging it would be like clicking and draging. This seems to take the similar approach except for more advanced touch commands and voice input.
I do have to wonder about the functionality of it though, since in general it would be much faster to simply use a mouse and keyboard shortcuts. However, this would make tournaments and such far, FAR more entertaining. It might actually be fun to see players clicking and tapping on the screen while shouting voice commands for their units. Wonder how accurately it can read voice commands when you're shouting and talking fast...
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
