Now having serious issues with video

Well, all past issues aside, I appearantly took a dump on my computer when I tried to update my drivers...

After installing the game PORTAL on steam, as well as TF2, I decided to go ahead and play the game. I was given a prompt that my video card drivers where out of date. The problem here is many.

First of all the card it shows is different from that listed in my Device Manager. Device Manager would like me to think my video card is called this:

AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3200+

But for some reason Steam says it is this:

ATI MOBILITY RADEON Xpres 200 Series

Now, this wouldn't be so much of a problem if I could even FIND the drivers for the second listed card. Upon my search on a site given to me by steam here I find that there is a RADEON and a MOBILITY sub-catagory (below the Professional/Home section) but not a combination of it.

SO, aside from that cunondrum I accidentally downloaded a few other drivers which I think fucked shit up...

Anyway, after thinking I fixed things and trying to install drivers a bunch of times I ran PORTAL and it was going ok for a bit. Then my screen went blue with white shit all messed around like a bad dream from Windows 98, then my comp restarted.

So now it does this whenever I run PORTAL, which is the only thing I dare touch in hopes that the two system restores I performed fixed the problem, which they didnt, whenever windows restarts I get a message saying that I just recovered froma SERIOUS problem and gave me this when I clicked on details:

C:\DOCUME~1\ERIKPO~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER70fa.dir00\M ini122907-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\ERIKPO~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER70fa.dir00\s ysdata.xml

I'm not even sure what that is...

ANYWAY, I just really need a way to reverse what I did. I'm not even sure what I did in my rushed panic but appeareantly shit isn't working very well anymore. I am running XP on a HP Laptop (Pavilion zv6000) which may be of some use to whoever can help. Everything else on the computer is running just fine as far as non-game use is concerned.

Help.

Anything interesting on Event Logs?

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Hmm, how does one find the Event Logs on windows XP?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Sorry for the delay, I'll just go ahead and attach them here since they're small~

I also .rar'd them so I could attach them.

On a different note appearantly I have a virus called cxsrrs.exe but after having done system restore I'm pretty sure it's gone... I haven't seen the little thing pop up after a restart telling me it's not working or whatever it does.

Much thanks, good sir!

How ya doing, buddy?

This feels like a driver mismatch.

You have a whole bunch of application warnings on December 29. They all involve COM+SOAP. Did you do anything at this time?

A typical transcript as follows:

The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( COM+ SOAP Services ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Removal of an assembly from the global assembly cache failed: C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Graphics-Light\CLI.Aspect.DisplaysManager.Graphics.Wizard.D LL CLI.Aspect.DisplaysManager.Graphics.Wizard,Version =2.0.2895.26476.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Yea, I was probobly trying to play one of the games I mentioned earlier, other than that I'm not sure anything else happened. What does COM+SOAP mean? :Q

To be honest, I have no idea. It sounds like a programming language though.

Perhaps someone more knowledgeable can help you.

For COM see here:
COM: Component Object Model Technologies

It's basically some high-level interprocess communication API. Also it implements object-oriented programming for low-level programming languages. The entire DirectX world is written with COM in mind, so you work with objects even when working with pure C (where creating bindings is a lot easier).
I don't like COM, I think the OpenGL approach is better.

SOAP is a Microsoft addon that enables using XML-webservices through COM.

OLE (object linking and embedding) which is used for copy&paste work in MS Office (when dealing with high-complexity selections like diagrams, sheets, etc.) also heavily relies on COM.
