Looking for info on VGM concerts

Hi guys, I am looking for some up-coming game music concerts. I've never been to a game music concert before. I pretty much play only Square-Enix games, but I enjoy music from other games also.

My question is, how good are those game music concerts? If you have been to one, can you please post which concert you attended and what you liked about and you didn't like about? I want to hear your opinions.

So far, I only found the VGL concerts that are currently active. Are there other concerts coming up in the future? I read the long VGL thread but I'm not sure if they still play the same songs, and if the song selection is different in each city.

I appreciate any info. Thanks much.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

In the States, there are mainly two video game concerts: VGL and Play. Play is still active right now; I think they're going to be in Chicago soon. Play is a symphonic concert that does not rely on electronic kits like VGL. Play doesn't have much in the way of variety of songs. Their mainstays are Shenmue, Mario, Metal Geal Solid, Sonic and various Final Fantasy songs. Some songs are rotated as well but I don't know much about that.

I've been to the Play! concert in Toronto. That was actually a ton of fun but a tad short. There were no pre-concert events but the crowd made their own events such as a Mario Kart DS competition. I thought hearing the music live was excellent. The atmosphere is very casual. You can laugh out loud during the performance and that's really not something you can do at any symphony. Then again, this is the same for Play or VGL if you've seen the Youtube videos

There's also a Final Fantasy based concert coming up called Distant Worlds. Don't really know much about that one but there's a thread dedicated to it in the Game Music forum.

I assume you only wanted potential concerts in the United States right?

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Thanks for the info! I didn't know about the Play and Distant World. I'll check the thread. The two concerts I knew was VGL and Dear Friends. Yes, I am looking for concerts in the US. Do you know if any of those concerts plays Start Ocean music? I am a fan of Start Ocean music. Thanks!

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
