The streaming links just won't behave this week; I couldn't get Name Entry to stream at all, even after percent-encoding every piece of punctuation in the link.

Cradle -Touhou Gegakushi Den- - Apparitions Stalk the Night: I liked this track, for the most part. A couple areas felt like they were the foundation for a nonexistent lead, but it wasn't anything that completely made the track fall apart. Not a fan of the vocal section but the rest was good.

Drawn to Life (Game Rip) - Snowy World: I found this to be too stereotypical to fully enjoy; pizzicato strings, jingling sleigh bells, flutes and simplified bass are all cookie cutter earmarks of the usual "snow level" music. The notes may change but I feel like I've heard it plenty of times before.

Dreamfall The Longest Journey Original Soundtrack - Rush: So, we're allowing Bjork music into SotW now? Though I recognize the music as being reasonably well done, I'm afraid it's in a style and mood that doesn't do a thing for me where vocals are concerned.

Force Majeure (Game Rip) - title: The beginning demanded my attention; the rest kept me entertained. Very synthy and enjoyable.

KOF MAXIMUM IMPACT REGULATION 'A' ORIGINAL SOUND TRACK - Unbreakable Stained Glass: Generic VG goth-rock. It's been done. I listened, I yawned, I moved on.

Virtua Racing & Out Runners - Name Entry: This wasn't bad though it was hardly a meal. Hell, it was barely an appetizer. I'd say it was a very nice sprig of parsley.

Zed Blade (Game Rip) - Universe Blue (yueez MIX) (Stage 2 & 5): Though it falls a bit on the conservative side, this is still a decent piece. It has many of the right elements and I only wish the composer had elected to get crazier with the arrangement. There is potential for more.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors (SNES Game Rip) - Mars Needs Cheerleaders: I remember this game; it was pretty bizarre, as the music suggests. This track is a bit of a conundrum for me because I totally get what it's trying to do and I think it's awesome for that. However, the end result doesn't completely work for me; I feel as though it could've been done smarter. If that makes any sense. I don't hate it but there's this part of my brain that senses what this track should be and that's not what I'm hearing.

Ah well, points, points, points:

3 Points: Force Majeure (Game Rip) - title
2 Points: Cradle -Touhou Gegakushi Den- - Apparitions Stalk the Night
1 Point: Zed Blade (Game Rip) - Universe Blue (yueez MIX) (Stage 2 & 5)

This was an average week. Nothing super special going on here.

Well I can't really in good conscience vote for this round, hahaha. But I will nominate a new song! What's more, it's another tracker!

I've been going through my old MOD collections and this one by 4mat really jumped out at me. I remember being absolutely blown away by it when I first heard it, and to me it still stands the test of time. Only 4 channels, that's just nuts! Some parts are more than a bit reminiscent of Chuck Rock, but then 4mat also did that soundtrack so there you go.

Artist: 4mat (Matthew Simmonds)
Album/Game Title: Leander (Amiga) (recorded module from XMplay)
Track Title: OUR-ROUT
Year: 1991
Source(s): MobyGames (also the credit in the MOD file)
Download: Here (192kbps is good enough, right? Also, here's the original MOD file)

3 points: KOF MAXIMUM IMPACT REGULATION 'A' ORIGINAL SOUND TRACK - Unbreakable Stained Glass
2 points: Drawn to Life (Game Rip) - Snowy World
1 point: Force Majeure (Game Rip) - title

Cradle -Touhou Gegakushi Den- - Apparitions Stalk the Night
7.2
Sounds like a nice city/urban beat. Nothing moving, though.

Drawn to Life (Game Rip) - Snowy World
7.8
Cliche or not, it's got jingle, and it's something I can listen to without being embarassed or want to go out and buy some candy canes. I liked this one more than the usual winter jingle, so I gave it a high score.

Dreamfall The Longest Journey Original Soundtrack - Rush
3.5
What the fuck is this? Really?

Force Majeure (Game Rip) - title
7.5
I'm not sure what kind of game it is, but it sounds schmupy. It is enjoyable, but a lot of the high pitch sections are repeated, and the sound quality of the file is questionable (maybe it's my machine?). Just a few little quirks that bug me, otherwise a good tune.

KOF MAXIMUM IMPACT REGULATION 'A' ORIGINAL SOUND TRACK - Unbreakable Stained Glass
8.2
KOF music USUALLY sucks. This isn't the best thing ever, but it's much better than the usual crap.

Virtua Racing & Out Runners - Name Entry
3.8
Too lazy and laid back.

Zed Blade (Game Rip) - Universe Blue (yueez MIX) (Stage 2 & 5)
6.2
This is a song you have to listen to more than one time and really get into to like. I like it now, but considering that, I can't really give it that great a score. Maybe it's just me.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors (SNES Game Rip) - Mars Needs Cheerleaders
7.1
I would LOVE to give this more points, but I know for a fact that SNES sounds is far more capable. If this were 8-bit, it'd be acceptable, but it has so much more potential. It's a great tune, though, and I'd love to hear it redone. In fact, I'm searching for a remix right now.

How ya doing, buddy?

Here's my nom from the last thread, in case it was missed.

My nom:

Artist: More Yamasan & B.B.

So, um, yeah.

NES Ninja Gaiden even the slightest bit iffy to anyone else? This track is a slight sound upgrade of the original, granted, but it's still intensely recognizable.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Oh god, so eager to get this next amazing nom out here.

Artist: Who the hell knows
Album/Game Title: Barbie Super Model (SNES Rip)
Track Number: 3
Track Title: Stage 1
Year: 1993
Source: Game profile: Barbie Super Model ~ SNESmusic.org
Additional Info: I know of this song, because I've played the game. An actual cartridge of the game. And it is easily the worst game I've ever played. This one song is the only thing remotely good about the whole game.

Maybe I'll change this nom later if I regain sanity, but I'll go with it for now.

2 Points - Dreamfall The Longest Journey Original Soundtrack - Rush
1 Point - Cradle -Touhou Gegakushi Den- - Apparitions Stalk the Night

Judging from this and past occasions, the slowed down streaming link error might to be caused by tracks in 48khz (the most masculine frequency known to man, obviously too burly for your effeminate streamed links), but maybe you noticed this already.

Thanks! (And to all others that gave me points/good critiques! Or even bad ones, I'm not picky!)

And yeah I didn't think many people would actually appreciate that nomination, but as long as at least a few more people listen to it, I guess that's all I can really expect, and it's more than enough. It's certainly not for everybody.

Man, WTF? Practically this whole week is good. I mean, not like I'd keep many of these, but nearly all the songs are very enjoyable. Nice work.

Yeah, Zed Blade is a bootleg Sonic CD (US). Sounds like someone at VGMusic tried to arrange Sonic CD. :-D It's not bad or anything, but ultimately it just can't hang.

Longest Journey was like a bootleg Björk, but bootleg Björk clearly trumps bootleg Sonic CD US any day of the week.

Cradle -Touhou Gegakushi Den- - Apparitions Stalk the Night Some nice percussion, brass, and synth here. It's not the most cohesive or melodic track, but it has a nice groove. Not really fond of the vocals, though.

Drawn to Life (Game Rip) - Snowy World Well, the 'snow' part of the title is definitely covered by the strings and sleigh bells, though the heavy backbeat isn't your typical Christmassy music. It's nice, kind of cute.

Dreamfall The Longest Journey Original Soundtrack - Rush The Dreamfall soundtrack is quite excellent, generally speaking. I was never particularly fond of the actual songs on the OST, though Rush is definitely the pick of the bunch. The vocal style and instrumentals aren;t particulalry original, but they're pretty and fit in with the other tracks in the game.

Force Majeure (Game Rip) - title Pretty good synthy track with a tracker feel and a slight conceptual resemblence to an old-school Mega Man track. Very cool.

KOF MAXIMUM IMPACT REGULATION 'A' ORIGINAL SOUND TRACK - Unbreakable Stained Glass I was fully expecting to dislike this, but it's actually pretty good. The sound that it uses isn't particularly original, but I like well-done rock opera.

Virtua Racing & Out Runners - Name Entry Nice atmosphere, but damn is it ever short. the thing's over before it's even begun.

Zed Blade (Game Rip) - Universe Blue (yueez MIX) (Stage 2 & 5) A pretty standard synth groove-type track, with nothing that really mad it stand out. Pleasant but forgettable.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors (SNES Game Rip) - Mars Needs Cheerleaders Some interesting stuff going on in this track. The composer's really trying for a spooky pseudo-gothic sound that stretches the boundaries of what the SNES sound chip is capable of. The samples are a varied lot, with some very advanced ones (like the harp) alongside some super-synthy ones. Easy to applaud, but hard to like.

A very nice week, with heaps of interesting stuff.

The Point Spread
title - 3 pts.
Stained Glass - 2 pts.
Dreamfall - 1 pt.

Nom pending.
