Character Celebrities

Although gameplay is what makes a game great, how would we get into games if the people we're controlling are stupid, arrogant dudes who we wouldn't care less about helping out?

Which character do you love and why? Dante? Snake? Master Chief? Which character sucks and why? Include pics if your character is so unknown.

Link is my favourite character. I have know idea why but maybe its the empathy you have when you play the Zelda games. A young, muted adventurer who risks his life to change the fate of Hyrule... I mean c'mon, who doesn't want to save the world? And who has the courage to wear tights?!!

As for the worst character, I'd have to say the Prince in POP2... That mutha fucka! Itz lik da Niggas pop sum pillz in hiz driLLz.

For me I'd have to go with #1 being Cloud Strife. That guy is hard core and never says anything!! #2 would be Snake. Snake is just the coolest character almost ever IMHO except when he can;t shut the hell up! Nah just joking his voice is so soothing (<3 David Hayter)

Slippy Toad. :lolsign: Just kidding.

Mega Man X would have to be one of mine. For one thing, I like blue. And secondly, what better weapon could there be than his X-Buster, when you can charge it up with no worry over ammo or energy levels, and just laugh at how everybody you run into seems to underestimate you until you put a charged shot right in their face. I do wish they didn't make him seem wimpy-ish in X4-X7, though. He was better in X8 though.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

In MGS4 Snake is set to be in his coolest role yet. The old man with bad-ass eyepatch. Snake is mega cool.

Henry was the most boring Silent Hill character yet - he ruined an already flawed game. He only opens his mouth when the little voice in his head says: "Hey Henry, say something stupid!".

I think I'd have to go with Link as my all time favourite character as well. mostly just because I adore Ocarina of Time, but like you said, the kid's brave enough to wear tights and he's always off saving the world even though nobody seems to want him around.

also a lot of the main Resident Evil characters like Leon, Chris, and Claire are always fun to play, as cheesy as they are sometimes. Leon was somewhat amusing in RE4, Chris is just a fucking tank, and well Claire goes beyond the call of duty just to find her brother, so I guess that's admirable.

as for characters I dislike: Tidus (FFX). I believe he's pretty self explainitory. Ashleigh (RE4) although she wasn't exactly a main playable character, she's still the only thing I didn't like about that game. my dislike for her is basically contained within the phrase "LEEEOOONNNNNN HEEEELLLLLP".

Links probably the shittest character of all time people! Even calling him a character is a stretch, he's an emotionless empty vessel.

And I know I'm sucking this game's cock tongiht but the Prince in Prince of Persia: Sands of Time was awesome. He started out innocent and naive yet grew emotionally and physically throughout the game. The highlight though was clearly when he got seperated from Farah and became a jadded machonist. Classic talking to oneself dialogue. That's another thing that make him so likeable, the voice acter did a good job.

But really I like my characters comical and there's no one better than Wario. Oh man, even reading the manual of Wario Ware Touched is hilarious. Everything about him is golden, especially his little catchphrases in various Mario spinoffs. "Oh I missed it!"

Characters I hate include nearly all the characters in every Japanese RPG ever. I'm trying to think of exceptions here... Zelos from ToS... yeah that's about it.

I thought Leon was pretty cool in Resident Evil 4 and he had some awesome moves so I really found him fun to play. The character I really couldn't stand playing would have to be Raiden, though I think I don't need to explain that one.

Leon was totally gay. I mean sure he had some good moves but geez he was wooden. Like the time you first meet up with Aya and have a breif disarming match. Aya was probably ready to take off all her clothes until Leon blurts out "You should learn to equip a knife it's better for close range combat" or some shit. Don't blame her for taking off.

I'd have to go with two of the iterations of Megaman -- the original Blue Bomber of course, and Megaman X. Each character's got 8 traditional games and a couple spin-offs, plus remakes of their first appearances on the PSP, and the series is getting close to its 20-year anniversary. With so many games out in the market, at least some form of Megaman is known by everyone.

Arguably, Zero's also quite cool and well-known. After saving X in his first appearance, it became obvious that people wanted to play as the androgynous rescuer of our blue hero. After going through a fe good facelifts, Zero came into his own spotlight and eventually got his own series -- Megaman Zero.

Moving out of the Megaman universe, Cloud Strife admittedly is one of the most well-known characters, though I'm surprised no one has mentioned Aeris(th). Her death and the emotional strife thereafter caused her post-mortum celebrity status to skyrocket, and I doubt there's a gamer alive who hasn't heard at least once about her tragic end and [opinion]tragic[/opinion] rebirth in the hearts, minds, and pens of fanfic writers everywhere. Also included from the FF7 universe would be Sephiroth, of course, and Tifa, who has inspired so many doujinshi it's not even funny. Can't forget to mention Vincent, who now has a highly anticipated game in the Final Fantasy 7 Compilation -- Dirge of Cerberus.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

My favorite character is Solid Snake by far. I love the way he seems to always be collected, and always knows what to do. When he loses it, it usually lasts about five seconds until he's back on track. One thing I noticed about the character of Naked Snake that was quite different from Solid Snake was that Naked Snake was not nearly as playalistic as Solid. In Metal Gear Solid, Snake was hitting on damn near every girl he saw, coming up with all sorts of lines and stuff. Naked Snake not so much. Around EVA he just sort of stood around and grunted. Of course, he was sneakin' many a peek just so we know he hasn't gone gay on us, but it sort of detracted from the James Bond-esqe behavior that I had come to expect from the protagonists in Metal Gear games. Well, that was sort of a tangent, but anyhow. Solid Snake is cool, guys.

As for a character I don't like? Kreia from KOtOR 2. What a bitch. I'm just trying to do my Jedi thing, save the galaxy, and she has to bring the consequences of my actions into it? It made me want to go Dark just so I could say something to the effect of "Shut your god damn mouth, elderly wench. Can't you see I'm just in it for the Light Side points? Pimping them hoes is easy as HELL when you're a Jedi. So please. Get the hell out of my party."

Oh, and I guess I forgot to mention Ayane, but I don't want to go on a rant about her so I guess I will end it here. Oh, and yeah Leon was pretty stiff and sexually apathetic, but I thought his karate moves were cool.

How about Sephiroth? who doesn't really know Sephiroth? I don't think you even had to have played FF7 to know him. You probably at very least know how he looks like. Hell, you can still find a few "Sephiroth(insert random sequence of letters and numbers)" SNs on the internet.

My favourite character celebrity is Laharl from Disgaea: Hour of Darkness. We see how he goes from vehement anger and ambition to becoming a more sympathetic person towards Flonne (although he'd never admit it straight up). Plus he summons a meteor!

I get him and Vincent mixed up all the time. I've seen plenty of the SNs though. Enough to make me wanna retch.

Samus Aran is another celebrity, I'd say. I wager a lot of people don't (or didn't) know at first that Samus is a girl. I didn't. :ashamed: One of the best female character celebrities out there, in my mind.

THANK YOU! Samus is really quite interesting considering the story Nintendo has given (which is easily the best developed of any of their franchises). Her emotions were conveyed so well in the Prime series without a word from her, and the events a Fusion really went a long way in her development. However, I must say that the number one thing that attaches the player to Samus is that even back as far as Metroid, you feel like you're Samus Aran when you pick up the game. I don't know how they do it, but the level of atmosphere in the Metroid series is unmatched by all but the best.

Sonic the Hedgehog. Underappreciated because his side character's games and his spin-offs suck. But Sonic rules any and all video game characters BECAUSE HE CAN.

Sora is also awesome. Because no one can look more badass with a giant key.

Worst video game character goes to Crash Bandicoot. He's lame. And annoying.

Gonna agree 100% with Josiah and Southjag on this one, X is the coolest.

Other characters I really like are Sonic the Hedgehog(Classic, not that punk we see today) and...Ecco the Dolphin!! Who DOESN'T love a bottle-nosed Dolphin that fights Aliens and travels through time?!.

For the worst character(s), ANY character from a Final Fantasy game. They're all as stiff as plank as wood and about as interesting as a chunk of bread.

Though not as well known, ("here he goes again, that Chaofan guy and his Eternal Darkness!") Maximillian Roivas was in my opinion one of the most interesting characters I've come across. Well, maybe not so when he is sane but when he starts going CRAZZZY he does just that. If anyone listened to his autopsies would know how insane this guy is. "MAY THE RATS EAT YOUR EYES!!!"

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Tingle as a crap character. That guy is WTF!!!
