Buying new eyeglasses

So I went to the optician today, looking for new glasses.
I did see a pair of nice ones, from Gucci. The problem was, too expensive...
So I went home to google for it and found them

Is it weird to go to the optician (obviously another one) and tell them that I have the eyeglass frame and just want new glasses and an eyesight test...?

:O

Jam it back in, in the dark.

No, not at all. Its a pretty common thing to do actually, since you could just buy frames from anywhere and get them done.

Actually i dont know how "common" it is, (ask galen) but it's definately not unheard of. When i got my glasses actually, the location itself was telling me i could just take my prescription elsewhere if i couldn't find anything i like.

PS lets see yours.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

The glasses...?

Gucci 1438:

Store price: about $535
Online price: about $153

Is this a trusted website...?
GUCCI GUCCI 1438 / GG1438 glasses at All designer glasses

If not, any recommendations...?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I do this every time I go to the optician. If you have a frame you really like, why not keep it? They don't seem to have a problem with it.

Unless you have an unusual prescription, you should be able to take a pair of frames to any competent optician and ask them to order and fit the lenses for you. It's not common but it can be done.

The thing is that you have o know what frames the lenses will be going into, so that's why most people shop in person. It's also easier to see the frames on your face that way, as well as have an experienced person tell you if there's going to be any problems with your face or prescription. Some prescriptions don't lend themselves to certain frame types.

Be sure you get your head measured so you know what width frames to buy.

Jeeze, designer frames sure are pricey.

I think mine were $40 or something cheapo like that.

And make sure your prescription works with those frames. How bad your eyes are determines how thick the lenses will be, which could determine what kind of frames you can get. My eyes are so bad that when I went to get a new set of frames, I couldnt pick a frame that didnt go all the way around the lense.

How ya doing, buddy?

I was actually kinda pissed when those glasses came back into style. I had bought a cheap set to wear when I wanted to look extra nerdy (which was depressingly often due to a bunch of various jokes with friends), but now I can't wear them because I look like I'm trying to be cool or something and it makes me look like even more of a jackass than I did a few years ago when I first got them.

Gonna have to make my next pair like Dwight's.

Obligatory link to Zenni Optical goes here.

Incidentally, my $300 pair of titanium frames broke yesterday, after, oh, about A YEAR AND A HALF. :fulenscrafters:

Thumbs up on that Zenni Optical, good shit. I first heard about them on here and have been buying my glasses from them ever since. Very good, reliable service. I've only had one pair break on me, but it was probably from me fucking around with them too much. And another pair that had loose screws, they sent me a pair of screws and even a tool to tighten them up. So cool.

Anyway, yea, it's no problem in bringing in the frames of your eyeglasses to eyeglass place and have them make lenses to fit your frames, but the only thing I can think of is that some of those rimless frames can only have so much lens on them. Like some rimless models aren't meant for people with huge thick prescription lenses. It's either just too heavy or the cuts for where the frame pierces the lenses are too thick.
