Star Ocean 4 Heads to PS3/360

Sorry Wii fans. But the next Star Ocean sequel will be headed to the PS3 and 360 respectively. The following subtitles are as follows;

First Departure
Second Evolution
Till the End of Time

Here's more on this game, courtesy of RPGfan

The newest addition to the critically acclaimed franchise is apparently too big for one game, so developer tri-Ace decided to split it up into the following three episodes: Star Ocean 4: First Departure, Star Ocean 4: Second Evolution and Star Ocean 4: Till the End of Time. Series fans should recognize the subtitles as being the same for the first three games of the series (the first and second subtitles being newly added for the PSP remakes).

Star Ocean 4: First Departure will be available in Japan sometime next year.

Episodic? Ugh.

Hopefully the game ruining plot twist will be contained in the third one, and everyone can get by just by purchasing 1 and 2.

How ya doing, buddy?

Hoping the third episode would have another mediocre plot twist. It'll be a homage!

Care to back this up in some way there, hot shot? I mean, really. Give us some substance here.

RPGFan is still up and running? I thought there was massive drama and crap going on with them. Of course I haven't kept in contact with some of the people there for a few years...

On topicness, sounds interesting. Even though I never played much of 3 because the battle system was all confusing like to me, (Granted it's been confusing for me even with SO2) I've still been interested in the Star Ocean series.

I guess doing games in episodic installments is the new thing. I want my final 3 Xenosaga (Xenogears triliogy?) games.

How ya doing, buddy?

If it really does ship on 360, I'll pick the games up as I enjoyed Star Ocean 3, even with all its numerous flaws. Hopefully they can do something about, oh I dunno... NOT STAYING ON A MEDIEVAL PLANET FOR 90% OF THE GAME. Here's hoping!

Aren't those all the titles of the previous Star Ocean games? The first two being the new titles that are assigned to them on their PSP remakes.

It sounds too bogus to me =(

Well, we'll see!

I'm getting Xenosaga flashbacks already! Square seems determined to expand all their franchises with as many games as possible these days. With the two PSP ports of SO I&II, and three Star Ocean 4 episodes, I'd say we're set to get our fill of the series for the next five years at least.

Squeenix says the game will have a more "sci-fi" emphasis than the previous game, so I'm thinking this will change. According to JeuxFrance's handy chart, SO4 takes place around 330 years *before* the first game, so it'll be the first game chronologically for the series. We're also gonna get five planets to explore, and a battle system that promises to be more "team oriented".

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Can't say I blame you, really. It's not like it's the only thing that sounds bogus about this story, anyway.

Hypothetically speaking though, I'd still stomach the episodic bullshit if they bothered to change the main character's name to something a little less ridiculous.

Ah, so then each episode will be 20 bucks, totalling up to the 60 bucks that one title costs...right?

Because if that's not the case, then this is just a cheap money-making scheme from people who are obviously out of ideas, unless of course the whole thing is false to begin with.

I wish I could get over that plot twist in SO3 but I'm not sure I can. Not to mention the stupid makeover that they're giving the characters from SO1 and SO2 in those portable remakes.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Because those are the titles of the Star Ocean PSP remakes and Star Ocean III for PS2. To anyone reading about RPGs enough to the point that they're on a message board about it (read: everyone here), this is pretty obvious, not something that needs a whole lot of deep analysis.

And lolRPGFan is kind of a tip, too. XD Notice the 100% false Ys Origin story they've got up right now, for example. Lulz.

I'll be more detailed next time, I guess.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

If anyone cares, the rest of the news where this bit got pulled from and plastered on the internets can be found here.

Or I guess the one part pertaining to this that people want to know about would be here

Fake news is fake. This information came from 2ch, and the guy who posted it was, apparently, out to get NeoGAF, since they regularly post and translate news from 2ch.

I just really do not see this ever coming out for the Xbox 360 after seeing the other jRPG performance on the machine (I thought incorrectly that Lost Odyssey would remedy this some). Developers are just better off focusing on making a better game for the PS3 rather than spend the money for abysmal sales RPGs are generating on the Xbox 360.

Ah, so, the plot thickens! Or in this case, thins, I guess. So it's only one game after all. The rest of the info I pulled should still be right though, just that it's still a PS3 exclusive. Come to think of it, most 70 hour RPGs aren't ever multi-platform from release, and most JRPGs aren't on the 360 period!

There's nowhere I can't reach.
