Are Opteron CPU's Noisy?
Hey Hey!
Alright, im in the process of building a new workstation for 3D modelling & animation, for that task I've selected AMD's Opteron CPU's. Does anyone have any experience with Opteron CPU's? Are dual opteron's (both with dual core) noisy with the packaged cooling units? Thanks in advance for any reply=) Yours, ReWOLF. PS Let's say a Pentium 4 has a noise level of 3, a thunderbird 10, where would a dual opteron CPU setup be placed on a scale such as this? Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]()

Dual-core Opterons ship with a very good heatsink that has four heatpipes that is as good as many branded coolers. The noise level can be kept under control by using the PowerNow! feature and/or swapping out the Delta fan for something more well-balanced.
