Suggestion on Pricing

Hey all,

Basically, I have two computers I am going to sell. These are relatively older ones that I don't use anymore. I have gotton their specs with the Ultimate Boot CD, Manuals, and BIOS. I also wiped them clean (so no OS is installed). My question is what price should I ask for them. Here is information about the two computers:

Compaq Presario
Computer Specs:
Age: 8 Years (Bought Mar 1999)
Processor: Pent II – 450 Mhz
CD/DVD Roms: 1 CD Drive (40 X I think), 1 CD Burner (2 X)
Ram: 128 Mb DRAM
Cache: L1 – 32 Kb, L2 – 512 Kb
Video Card & Chipset: VESA-VGA (ATI) 32 Bit w/ 8MB (8192 Kb) Ram, ATI 3D RAGE LT Pro AGP 2x
Hard Disk Drive: 17 Gig Hard Drive
Operating System: None (Had Prepackaged Windows 98 Installed) Due to system's age, would suggest Linux.
Problems/Issues:
-1 Sector is bad. This was an isolated incident and no other bad sectors have occurred. However, make sure scan disk, or another program that find and removes bad sectors is run after you install Windows/Linux.
-Needs a keyboard, a mouse, a power cord, and speakers. The mouse must be an older mouse (newer ones do not fit into the mouse socket)
-Needs a monitor, with the suggestion of an older old (I have found that a flat panel gives an 'Out of Range Signal' error when I loaded up Linux. However, that may be due to the version of Linux being three years (or more) old).
-Case is slightly warped/banged up. Does not affect performance of computer.

Compaq Presario
Computer Specs:
Age: 4 Years (Estimate)
Processor: Pent IV 2.7 Ghz
CD/DVD Roms: 1 CD Burner (48 X 24 X 48)
Ram: 256 MB DDR SDRAM
Cache: L1 – 20 KB , L2 – 128 KB
Video Card & Chipset: Integrated Intel Extreme Graphics w/ up to 64 MB (Shared Memory) according to HP's website, 8 MB when I ran the Ultimate Boot CD system information tool, Intel 82845G/GL/GV/GE/PE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device
Hard Disk Drive: 40 Gig Hard Drive
Operating System: None (Had Windows XP Installed first, then Fedora's Core). However, Win XP Activation Code is on top of the computer.

Problems/Issues
-Needs a keyboard, a mouse, and speakers.

Thanks for your help!

I really don't see you selling these at all. There are some really good computers out there (Much better than those two) that are really cheap these days, at around $300.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

PC 1 = $50
PC 2 = $75

And that is pushing it. As Stealth said, you really are going to struggle to sell those machines. I'd suggest either just dumping them, or donating them to someone.

How ya doing, buddy?

Are you serious about selling them? Just give them to a relative, it'd be far less troublesome.

I don't see why someone would like to buy a second-hand PC to begin with. For all you know it's going to collapse as soon as you turn it on for the fifth time. Hardware isn't reliable.

Unfortunetly, I'd have to pretty much agree with everybody's opinion here, sans Domino's, and that's only because I can't see them being worth much of anything.

You're really better off donating them. I know of a place that could take them and recycle them, or reuse them for special projects or needy situations.

I was speaking idiomatically.

WORLD BETTER THAN WHEN YOU FOUND IT.

For me, I actually don't care too much. The main reason they are going is it it taking too much room in my parents house. However, my parents were hoping I could sell them (so, yeah, technically, I'm not the one selling them, but my parents are). I wanted to get a price, if any, I could give my parents with, and then let them deal with that. However, my knowledge on pricing second-hand computers is basically nil, which is the reason for this thread.

How ya doing, buddy?
