USB's being weird...

Hey all, thanks again to all the guys who helped me with my new computer. It's quite amazing, especially sitting next to my old piece of shit.

So, I put it all together, installed Windows XP Pro and all, and everything goes swimmingly. Now, I'm trying to install a driver for a Wireless USB Network Adapter from Belkin. Windows pops up with an error during hardware installation saying that the device could not start. It also pops up with "Device would perform better if plugged into a USB 2.0 slot." Well, I think all of my USB slots are 2.0 (at least I think so). Windows also says that all of my USB slots are Hi-Speed 2.0, but no matter which one I plug it into, it says that "Device would perform better if plugged into a USB 2.0 slot." Would the adapter be at fault, or did I connect something incorrectly on the motherboard?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Have you upgraded to/or are running Windows XP Pro SP1a or higher; that may the problem if not upgrade to SP1a then SP2. Also the motherboard should have a driver CD bundled in.

Otherwise go to the device manager through the control panel and you can check what kind of USB sockets your PC has.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Oh damn. Windows XP doesn't have USB 2.0 support out of the box? Gay. I'm going to have to get an Ethernet cable then. I just installed XP, so it's just plain XP with no patches and SP-whatevers.

Thanks a lot.

How ya doing, buddy?

If you do a quick google search I believe there are methods to reburn your copy of Windows XP with Sp1a and SP2 slipstreamed in so you don't have to go through this cumbersome process next time you install Windows Xp.

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?
