Where would you be without....

Where you be without Music?

Sitting at home banging your head to a wall
Maybe running for president?
Or somthing else?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Probably lead a more boring life. I listen to music all the time and enjoy playing it as well. I would suffer during long road trips, especially against the radio. Though I guess at home, if I didn't play guitar I'd probably supplement it with drawing and/or video game playing. By which I mean doing more of that.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Are you asking as if music never existed, or as if music suddenly vanished? Depending on the answer, I'd probably have two completely different things to say.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

If music were suddenly taken from me, I think I would spend at least a year or so screaming. Music is about the only way I keep sane. Once I had adjusted to the change I would be okay, if I survived that year.

If we're talking about music by itself, I doubt I'd notice much. I almost never listen to the radio, and the only music I listen to on a regular basis is my mp3 player on the 10 minute drive to and from the train station every morning. I don't play CDs or anything at home, and on a long drive I'm more likely to download podcasts with people talking. I've never understood the folks who walk around with their iPods and earphones in their ears 24 hours a day. Listening to other people talk, or just plain silence, is much better.

On the other hand, if you're talking about removing music from video games, TV, movies, etc., that would be depressing. Without music to set the tone, much would be lost in the experience.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Music is my LIFE! without music, I would have no means of escaping the random and noisiest of thoughts and junk from my mind. To be honest, I would probably be dead by now if music was not in my life

Yes ,music has probably saved us from the lowest parts of life.
Where would you be without your first love?

Would you be in the NBA?

Still have a bank account?

Or..

Jam it back in, in the dark.

If I didn't have music, I would be missing a little over half my life. Listening to music has always been a big part of my life, but since I decided to focus on being a musician, you can pretty much say that it's my entire life and livelihood. I've thought about what would happen if my music-making abilities were taken away (heaven forbid!), and even though I could perhaps fall back on my art, it would still take away a huge part of me.

Playing music is a huge social part of my life. Heck, it's about the only social part of my life. Everything revolves around listening and playing music with people. Sure, I could attend concerts and continue to go to festivals and stuff, but it would be a different kind of relationship than the one found through playing with people.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Life would be a lot less enjoyable, that's for sure. Imagine going to a club and there's no music. That's just awkward.

I don't particularly think this question is ... well defined.

Think about it. What do you define as music? If you consider regular music to be, like, the artists that play on your MP3 player, or what you hear going to work everyday, where does it stop from there?

What I mean is, if that didn't work, or exist, then wouldn't you ultimately try to make music yourself? Anyone can sing, snap their fingers, get into a swing. How could you prevent someone from doing or actually hearing that? The only possible way life could exist without music is if everybody was deaf.

If everybody was deaf...

I don't even want to think about that. Right now I think that's inconceivable. We rely so much on our hearing that if it was just to all of a sudden stop one day sans a time limit, life would go into chaos. It might mean the end of civilization as we know it.

So, to answer your question, if there was no music, there would be no civilization. Ah, how I love to use Aristotle's Method to get my point across.

But yet, it's so convoluted and unnecessary.

Of course there'd be civilization. It wouldn't be a very creative or very fun one, but it's not like civilization hinges on music (or even creativity!) alone.

Music is an upper for me. But that's about it. I'm a philistine, I guess. I mean, I value creativity and all, but music is just something that fucks with my mood or causes me to feel a certain way. It's helpful when I have a bad day and I can listen to some music to make me feel better, but that's as far as it goes with me, I guess.

It's not like this life changing thing for me. Just a useful tool.

Let's see...without music I lose a lot. First, I'd probably lose my job. At MS I work in these labs (easily over 500+ machines) that's swarmed with computer fan noises...and I hate the sound of a computer fan. I listen to my zune ALL DAY...in fact, I am right now. I think I'd mentally break my cap. I also wouldn't be able to do my clown walk, which I love to do. I wouldn't have anything to drive to except listening to some dumb ass talk about some other dumb ass about dumb ass shit.

Here's the real question: Where would you be without gas? Christ...with prices like 4.70 for 92 octane - this question could be reality.

Ya' know I was being sarcastic by over-exaggerating to get my point across.

And you kind of missed the point of my entire post; it was about how absurd the question was to begin with.

Why are you hitting enter after every sentence?
Does it make you look cool?
Why are you asking so many questions?

To answer your question, I would lead a deaf life.
Life without music wouldn't be that bad, though it will be quite bland.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Dance party!

Trying very hard not to laugh here, especially when the topic is serious.

I CAN'T HELP IT THOUGH!

If something is amiss, I do something else. No music? Books and lots of 'em (though it wouldn't be the same). No TV? I just go outside!

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
