Classic chiptune ending themes
Listening to good NES and Game Boy credits songs/ending themes gives me a feeling like no other. You know, they start off slow, maybe even a bit sad/retrospective, then the drums come in, and it turns into a nice upbeat tune that gives you that wonderful feel-good feeling. And the well-done ones just sound classic, even if you've never played the game. If you have, the feeling is even stronger, as you think about the experience you had playing the game (often strengthened by nostalgia).
Well, that's how it is for me anyway. What about you guys? Also, what are your favorite chiptune ending themes? Here are some that I really like (not that varied, I know): Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (GB) - Staff Roll: Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land (GB) - End Credits: Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: Castlevania III (NES) - Flash Back: Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: Super Mario Land (GB) - Rocket Ship Ride: Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: And here's a sadder, more emotional ending: Ninja Gaiden (NES) - Ending - Fosters Double Cross - Ryu and Irene Together: Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: Jam it back in, in the dark.
Check out my original music at my Soundcloud page!
Latest music rips (updated January 10, 2012): SimCity DS - Jazz/ambient/electronic music including interesting reworkings of songs from the fantastic SimCity 3000 soundtrack Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels? Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more ![]()

Same thing here, I love chiptune ending songs, they're probably the most emotional out of the whole soundtrack.
I must have listened to the Super Mario Land ending theme tons of times back in the day, I still remember it by heart. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
The Kid Icarus staff roll has always been one of my favorite ending themes of all time.
Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: Two good ones from the BCC and one from last year's BCC (I nominated two of these >_>): Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: Kirby's Block Ball - Staff Roll Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: Tetris Attack (GB) - Ending BGM Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: Toki Tori - Home Sweet Home (Fifth Cutscene / Credits) How ya doing, buddy? |
Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: nostalgia~~ I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
The GameBoy version of Contra has a great ending tune.
Great melody, uplifiting mood, and satisfying accomplishment. (also if you haven't heard it, the "Konami Ending Collection" album is full of only ending tunes, from multiple platforms) I was speaking idiomatically. |
The only one I can recall having a lot of fondness for is the ending theme of SMB3. It starts with the classic Princess Toadstool theme before breaking out into a wonderfully upbeat and yet also emotional tune.
Also, although not as primitive a chiptune, the ending theme from Streets of Rage 2 always brings a smile. That's as far as I can go before going into SNES era stuff, which as has been debated over before, is probably too much of a transitional period to be considered chiptune for the purposes of this sort of thing. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?
