Make your time
I've let you hide long enough.
I guess we can talk about it if you want. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I don't use contacts because they itch like hell, and I can't put a laser pointer on the frame of contacts at night so that the beam shines through the lens. That, and I look funny without glasses on.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I used to wear contacts, but then I got LASIK.
One of the best decisions I've ever made. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

LASIK? Laser eye surgery? Not just anyone can get that done right?
Shit, my country probably doesn't even have it. *checks* =O! I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Your country probably has it but I don't know how much I'd trust one of those doctors. :P
Pretty much anyone can get LASIK. I mean, unless a person has a very bad astigmatism (the eye is shaped too much like an oval), it's possible. It's an outpatient procedure: you get a pill of Valium and numbing drops in your eyes. I was speaking idiomatically.

I wear glasses and I'm fine with them. I can't even fathom putting something in my eye. No fucking way.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
My eyesight is so bad that my optometrist enthusiastically suggested that I switch over to contacts. It's definitely a tradeoff from glasses in many ways. Although I see much better peripherally, they're really annoying to clean every night, carry a case for every day, and I can't rub my eyes too hard or I'll shift the position. The most annoying thing being that they seem to attract dust or hair a lot and I get a stabbing sensation that makes me "cry" more than I should.

I wear my glasses pretty consistently, but I wear contacts when I need to do a show. That way I can see the audience AND put on any facial accessories required
![]() I'm seriously considering LASIK though. How ya doing, buddy? ![]() |

It was under $800 per eye when I got mine done back in 1999, but I got a deal because my mom worked for the doctor. No idea how much it costs now.

Eh? It's about €2,000 (=$2,500) per eye here.
Ah fuck that shit, I will go to Turkey. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Dude, in Turkey, you could get brand new eyes for that.

I would *love* to get contact lenses. I'm near-sighted and being diabetic doesn't help one bit. Depending on my blood sugars, my vision can range from pretty decent (read the house numbers across the street) to piss poor (being inches away from my monitor.)
I have glasses that I'm legally required to wear, but I hardly ever do. They don't suit me at all and I don't feel like shelling out for new ones. Contacts would the best option, but they're pretty expensive too. LASIK isn't really an option. With diabetes, there's a high chance the surgery will become null after a certain time. :/ I was speaking idiomatically. |
I wear contacts, but not very often because I can only wear them for about four hours before my eyes start feeling scratchy from them (I have dry eyes). Eye drops help, but not much. I really only wear them to functions that I have to dress up for and to work out. The rest of the time I just wear my glasses.
I'd really like to get LASIK, but my eyes are dry and my optometrist said, in a nutshell, that if you have dry eyes and get LASIK you could end up feeling like you have dry eyes forever after because of something to do with LASIK killing some of the eye's cells. I'm hoping that eventually science will bypass that problem and I can correct my vision through surgery. Most amazing jew boots |

I rather like my glasses. I don't think I would get contacts - they seem like they're awfully problematic. I wear my glasses every waking moment anymore, and they're really not that annoying to push me into getting contacts.
The only issue I really have with the glasses is that I am a big sunglasses kind of person. I wear a driving hat in lieu of glasses now, when I can, to block the sun. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
The last time I had my vision checked, I had 20/20 in my left eye, and 20/15 in my right eye. That was about 4 years ago, and I fear my vision may not be so good as it used to be. But I still have pretty sharp vision and can see many things my family members who wear glasses or contacts can't, even while they wear those.
I do consider myself pretty lucky since everyone in my family has glasses aside from me. Jam it back in, in the dark.
<@a_lurker> I like zeal better than guru.
<@a_lurker> There, I said it, I'm not taking it back. |
You might want to get a second opinion from the guy who doesn't stand to benefit from giving you eye exams and glasses or contacts the rest of your life. There's nowhere I can't reach.

I wear glasses. I can't stand the feeling of anything touching my eyeball--eydrops are torture, the glaucoma test is worse, and my eyes sting uncontrollably when I open them underwater. The optometrist suggested touching my eyeball once a day to see if I could get used to it--I can't.
I've thought about LASIK, but frankly the procedure scares me. If I can't stand the sensation of water touching my eyes, a fucking laser seems out of the question. Not to mention the fact that LASIK has only been available for a few years--there are no long-term studies of possible side effects because no one's had a LASIK'd eye for seventy years. As Flanders said, maybe your eyeballs pop out at the ten-year mark or something. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]()

I've been wearing glasses for 9 years now and I've gotten used to them. However I have considered getting laser eye surgery before but I think I'm going to wait till I'm out of college or something before I seriously start looking around. Also all the incidents I see at school where some guy's contact slides out of place scares me. I don't want one of those things swimming all around my eyeball where I can't get the fucker out.

I don't use contacts or glasses. There is nothing at all wrong with my eyes, so I chose the somewhat ostentatious choice that is the Air Force one. Even though I don't like heights...
But if it's to put my eyes to good use, then so be it! I was speaking idiomatically. |
How ya doing, buddy? |
Yes, I wear contacts. I wore contacts everyday from Grade nine to 3rd year University. But since last Fall I have been wearing my glasses. Mainly because there are many good looking girls I know who like me in glasses.

I wear contacts and have no problem with them. They're so much better than my glasses (possibly because I havent updated the prescription in my glasses). A little bit of a hassle in the morning, but they actually wake me up when I put them in because they flush out my eyes... so it works out.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() |
I wear glasses on a normal basis. I have contacts as well, but they are the gas-permeable hard rigid type lenses, so for daily routines where I can potentially be at the office for 9+ hours a day, contacts aren't practical. The A/C is on cranked up all the time in the office (except on weekends, it seems) so it's really too dry of an environment for me to be wearing contacts and be comfortable with it.
Once I wore contacts to the office and by the time it was 3PM, my eyes were so dry and miserable that I opted to switch out to my glasses since I knew I wasn't going to be able to bear driving in my contacts. And the switch to the glasses was pretty annoying too, since I didn't have my suction cup thingy to take the hard lenses out. Definitely considering LASIK here as well, but I don't think my optical insurance covers it if at all. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
