Tales of Symphonia OVA

Tales of Symphonia is getting it's own anime in 2007.

News: http://www.animate.tv/nf/detail.php?id=0000000693
Official site: http://www.ova-tos.com/

Not much up on the official site yet, but there's a nice image of the characters.

The visuals should be great quality. Hopefully it'll run more than 4 episodes or it'll surely have the same issue as TOP did. Being that they cramped the story into 4 episodes and had to skip many events in the game. No word yet on how many episodes it will run.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

ToP had four episodes? o.O

Anyway, I never thought ToS would have it's own series, but this is good news. The artwork looks great. I played the game three times(!). Now I have to get used to Japanese VAs though : /

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I never got to play Symphonia since my older bro sold the damn thing =/. Then again, I didn't think it looked to great. Perhaps the anime would change my mind?

Either way, a Tales anime is always good to see ^^:. Eternia was alright though it was mostly about the crew hanging out , doing shit. Phantasia kinda kept on the story with a few elements changed but at least they were half serious with it.

So far the only recent game to anime OVA is Ar Tonelico. Another interesting OVA with a character that looks a little too much like Cless. Symphonia should have 13 episodes like Eternia. I just hope it airs on tv and not being released every 3-4 months >.>.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

ToP was far from rushed. ._.

Also my group will be subbing ToS OVA and maybe even D. Gray-man.

My friend loved Tales of Symphonia. Although most of the videogame to anime conversions don't go well, I will probably end up watching this. I am a sucker for videogame animes.

I was pleased with the animatin of Tales of Phantasia OVA and from the promotional art, it looks good. Hopefully all things will go well with this...

I was talking about how there wasn't enough screen time to cover events in TOP OVA. Not a rush in animation quality or anything like that. It was beautiful on screen and the voice work excellent. It just needed more episodes to be able to cover more events in the game and take more time on certain events. They didn't even show the whole ending after the final fight with Dhaos. Except in a tiny box in the credits with no spoken dialog.

Oh great your going to be subbing TOS, what's your groups name?

Just the other day my friend and I were saying TOS needed its own anime... Dreams really do come true ^^. Is it going to follow the same story as the game? or is it after the game?

Ooh, ToS was a great game, and I really hope this turns out better than the Tales of Phantasia anime. I guess this means I need to finally get around to finishing Symphonia after a year of being at the very end of the game.

Hey everyone, just wanted to revive this thread just to say that the first episode of this OVA is out, and subbed.

http://www.mininova.org/tor/746603

Some events have been modified or cut out to streamline the story, but otherwise keeps pretty close to the game. Things look good, and the characters look much like they did in the anime cutscenes in the game. The major problem I had was with the subs, and only because I'm not used to the Desians being called the Tetheallians, or something like that.

I'm kinda in a rush here, so I'm not going to post picts right now, but I may do that afterwards....mabye

Hard-Gay Fansubs made a version 2, where they corrected the error of calling Desians wrong, and a few other things that went wrong with it since they were just rushing to get it out to be the first ones to do the sub.

I can forgive the past atrocities that were Eternia and Phantasia, my only concern is there is 35 hours of story left, and only 3 episodes remain.

Then again it's a question of whether they will actually complete the story of just let it sort of cliffhang. The whole party cast is supposed to be in it so it can go either way.

umai is picking this series up as a joint project, and I'm pretty satisfied with their work on Romeo x Juliet so I'll probably grab their releases whenever they do 'em.

I'm DLing V 2 now. 12.1%. Does the original JPN VAs come back to voice the OVA? I'd like to see what they sound like.

Wait, they're trying to do this in only 4 episodes? That's not even remotely possible. I wonder where they plan to end it, since it'd be difficult to even reach the Tower of Salvation in that time.

They could pull a Phantasia.

10 hours of plot in 30 minutes gogogo~

They'll either go all the way or stop at the huge revelation or something.

Maybe episode three will just be a 30 minute montage stretching from finishing up in Triet all the way to entering Welgaia. Brief stops would be made for character introductions, but nothing else.

Stopping at the big plot twist would just be cruel.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I'm thinking they would probably cut out most of the dungeons, introduce some summons in a few quick scenes, and cut out most of the towns and cities that don't affect the story that much. Entire sub plots can be bypassed if they want to, cutting down a lot of the story that was in the game. Of course, I really do hope they don't cut out that much, but if they really want to do it all in 4 eps, they are going to have to do that. Besides, they still have more than half the plot-centric characters to introduce, and the ones that need to be introduced all have a good amount of backstory to cover.

Oh how I worry about this...

EDIT: Thank Lacerta, for the v2 of the subs!

I absolutely loved Symphonia, so I'm just happy to see it in animated form. It would take a few seasons to cover the entire game, so I'm just choosing to look at this as a bit of happy fanservice. Thanks for the information about the fansubbers, Lacerta. I'll be looking out for umai's version.

I just finished watching it, and oh gawd, it's kick-ass! I really liked it. I thought it was wicked awesome to see techniques animated and with good SFX. The animation/art design is just like the game. The end credits was so cute! I'm sooo tempted to make a matching avatar/sig now >_>

Like others said, I don't see how they can finish the story in a mere four episodes. The next episode comes out next month, right?

Oh, and since I'm a total screengrab whore, I took a few pics for postage! I'd take lots more, but I need to get to bed soon.

Spoiler:

Oh, this pic is just too frickin' adorable for words, and I don't even like Collette!

P.S. The ending song is quite nice.

Spoiler:
Oh, I dearly hope Remiel dies a gruesome death. So I assume Forcystus bit the big one already?

Holy geez, I sure killed the thread in a hurry. I thought that since it just came out, more people would be posting.

Anyway, does anyone know where the torrent is for the bonus disc?

Also, the second episode is coming out Aug 10th, which is...my birthday. Awesome. Something good to look forward to on my day.

I don't know why, but I was severely bored when watching, and it only served as a good refresher of some events that happened in the game. I'm very glad they didn't show anything involving Genis + Marble otherwise I would have probably gasped and been really sad, considering how that worked in-game. I predict Colette will never ever take her Chakrams out again at this rate, which would be fine. I wish Genis used more spells, and am eagerly waiting for Presea.
