Touchpad Tribulations
So when my computor is on for about three or four days the touch pad does soemthing interesting.
Normally all it does is replace the mouse and I have two large buttons beneath it that left/right click. Sounds normal. But after some time all i need to do is tap the pad itself and that becomes a left click. This bothers me since my right hand rests on the pad and randomly clicks everywhere all the time. I could train myself to not rest there but I just don't want to. How do I change this?? I'm using Windows XP. Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
Control Panel -> Mouse -> Advanced tab -> disable tapping
This is the general path to follow. Most laptops use synaptics for touchpad support, so there will be a tab for it and that's where you need to go. Tapping is one of the main options once you get there. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
Well I found the option to Reset my settings, which worked, but I couldn't find where I can actually turn it off for good. This is good enough for me for now, but I might point out I didnt find an Advanced Options tab in my Control Panel under Mouse. My pad does use Synaptics though, you where right.

Does this page help you some?
http://www.winbookcorp.com/_technote/WBTA00000847.htm Personally, I don't really mind tapping as left click. Sometimes it saves me time that would otherwise be spent going to the mouse ![]() I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
