No background for ANY website

Yeah, that seems like a strange thread title, but it's true. Yesterday everything was just fine, and all I remember doing was browsing and getting FF 2.0 on this PC along with a windows update. Now today, I get on and notice that not one site's background is visible. All I get is white, with format outlines and banners (like GFF's ) sticking out.

Anyone know what's causing this? I searched a bit on google and apparently I'm not the only one with this problem.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Sounds like a CSS problem to me, have you checked for updates in firefox (Help -> Check for updates).

Either that or it may be as simple as going to Tools -> Options -> Content -> Colours -> Tick "Allow pages to use their own colours, instead of mine"

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Tried the first one and there doesn't seem to be any new updates available for Firefox. I went to the colors menu in content and that option was already selected. I deselected it and clicked it again. Closed FF and opened it and nothing.

Internet Explorer is the same way too.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

How odd!

What version of IE are you using?
While I don't think this will work, it may be worth a go. If you are using IE7 goto Tools -> Internet Options -> Accessibility and make sure none of the items are ticked (especially the user stylesheet one).

Clearing your temporary internet files may be worth a go too.

Also if you don't mind downloading another browser, it may be worth trying opera to see if it has the same problem.

Tell me about it. It's as if this problem willed itself out of nothing (though this is probably not the case).

Heh, funny that you mention Opera, since that's what the other guys recommended (in the google search result) and the internet is perfectly fine. It's also what I'm using now.

Oh and it's IE6. How do you clear temporary internet files? Is that the cache?

I was speaking idiomatically.

You can do that in IE6 to.

To clear the Temporary internet files just goto Tools -> Internet Options -> and click "Delete files", although I don't think it'll work, its worth a shot.
It may also be worth trying Tools -> Reset web settings.

It definitely sounds like a CSS (cascading style sheet) problem to me though, is there anything else different about the pages (font type, size, colour)?

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

When something screwy happens, the first thing I try is System Restore.
