Computer Doesn't Boot Up
Hello. I have a help request on behalf of a friend of mine. Just recently her computer went kaputz. Her little sister tried jabbing a headphone end into one of the usb ports(bad mistake, sister obviously needs glasses. lol) and as soon as she did, apparently a message appeared on the screen that said "Power surge to usb" and then the computer started beeping and beeping. So my friend did what most people would do. She turned it off. Now it won't go back on. She starts it up. But it only gets as far as the "Compaq" screen that comes up first. and then just turns off. She's planning on taking it in if she can't get any help here. So any suggestions are welcome.
The computer is running windows xp. Not sure the exact specifics. But its only 3 years old. probably a p4 i'm guessing. Thanks in advance. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Have you tried booting the computer without any USB devices attached? Can you get into the BIOS at all? (usually by pressing F10 or Delete the Compaq screen) If you your board doesn't boot, try disabling your USB ports in the BIOS.
A last resort would be to test another power supply. My friend's HP computer did the same thing when his PSU up and died suddenly. You may have to buy a 4-port USB PCI card if you can't get your ports to function again. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
If the above-mentioned solutions fail, your friend's got a fried motherboard on his hands, methinks. (Obviously he'll need to replace it)
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
She. lol. Yah. thats what I suggested to. She's just gonna take it in. She gets free repair and stuff like that at this one place. So she might as well get professional help. Thanks for the help guys.
How ya doing, buddy? |
