high blood presssure?

hey guys, i took my blood pressure today and it went crazy! it ranged from like 120/75 to like 140/85, it mainly stayed around 130/80 though, which is prehypertension. Here's my question. I have the flu. Can the flu affect blood pressure? I'm on antibiotics, cough syrup, a decongestant, and im taking things like ibuprofen and acetaminophen. like, i wouldn't be surprised if my blood pressure were a bit high, but id like to hear that being sick or taking any of the above meds can make it higher than normal.

thanks guys

and my pulse was like 75/77 the whole time, which is pretty good right?

Bredow, your blood pressure can definitely be elevated when you're ill. Don't worry about it right now. Get well and then take it again just to be certain.

130/80? I'm not concerned. Are you sure you weren't talking when your B/P was being taken?

The median is about 120/80. +/- 10 should be good. If you worry about Hypertension (which by the way worry is a factor), cut down on greasy food and live a healthier lifestyle. Also workout; helps a lot.

As for the flu - well, don't know. I don't think so though. Pulse should be around.. uh, 60, I think. I forgot my nursing learning, hell, CNA training even. It's factors I certainly forgot but on the tip of my tongue - either lower is better or higher is worse or vice versa.

Besides, some Hypertension cases aren't caused by meds - some are caused by genetic disposition. If your family has a history, there are odds you'll get it too, I suppose.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I'm 14 and my blood pressure is 140/86 though.. the doctor sent me to the hospital cause it was so high. Found out I was anemic, and that's why it was that high. Also they said teens have a tendancy to have high blood pressure. So.. I'm not worried bout mine. Hope yours goes back down to normal though.

How ya doing, buddy?

I guess I'm a little strange...my blood pressure is 80/42...yeah, I know, way too low. My sister's an RN and she says I should be dead...

I was speaking idiomatically.

Sure you're not crossing up your BP with your pulse rates?

I've never had a problem with high blood pressure until I got pregnant. It wasn't so bad until the third trimester in January and February. It would range from 130/90 to 140/93. Then after my checkup the doctor would send me back to get it checked again and it would be down. Around the end of February,my doctor had my mom checking my blood pressure to check up on it. On the 27th of Feb,it went up to like 140/100 and kept fluctuating that day so the doctor had me come to the clinic the next day. It was around 130/93 or so,so they decided to induce labor. Now my blood pressure is back to being 120/82. I haven't had a problem with it since.
