Stop crying or you're sleeping outside!

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (AP) -- The father of a young girl who died of exposure had knocked her unconscious because he was angry she wouldn't go to bed, then took her outside in freezing temperatures and left her there, police said before the man's arraignment Thursday.

Nyia Miangel Page, who was about to turn 2, was found dead Sunday on a wooded knoll about a 10 minute walk from the family's home.

Tiny footprints in the snow suggested she had gotten up and wandered around before she died, police said.

Her father, William Lorenzo Page, 23, of Braddock, was arrested on charges of criminal homicide, kidnapping, false reports and simple assault. He did not have an attorney in court Thursday morning, and was jailed without bond.

Page told police he woke up early Saturday and found the girl awake and playing near a mirror in the hallway, according to the criminal complaint. He said he got mad when the girl wouldn't go back to bed, so he hit her so hard she hit her head and was unconscious, the complaint said.

Page then took her outside wrapped in a blanket and left her, police said.

An autopsy determined Nyia died of hypothermia, but the Allegheny County Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide because investigators said it was unreasonable to assume the child got to the wooded location alone.

Her small body was found about a 10-minute walk from her home, a trek that would have included climbing 17 snowy steps up to a wooded knoll.

A witness had seen Page enter his house Saturday morning from the direction where his daughter was found, police said. He was back out on the street about an hour later, saying he was looking for the girl and telling the witness, "Somebody took my daughter," according to a criminal complaint.

Nyia's mother told police she last saw the girl after Nyia tried to crawl into bed with her parents about 12:30 a.m. Saturday. The mother told police she put the youngster back into her own bed in an upstairs room.

Police, emergency crews and bloodhounds searched in 20-degree temperatures for most of two days before finding the little girl's body.

Page, who did not have an attorney in court Thursday morning, was jailed without bond.

People are just stupid these days. She's so little and a father would actually do something like that to a child of her age... I mean, she was about to enter her terrible two year, isn't that kind of an expected part of growing up?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Some people just need to get their anger in check. Seriously, it has been the cause of many unfortunate events.

It angers me that he could do this to a two-year old who apparently can't reason for herself. Hope the dad dies.

This reminds me all too well of a recent story I read about a man who put his infant daughter in the freezer, using the excuse that he was trying to bring a fever down. Luckily, that little girl only got out with 1st and 2nd degree frostbite when the mother came home and found her there.

Ugh... I dont even know how to express my anger about parents such as this... if you don't want to reasonably deal with a child, DON'T HAVE ONE!!! And no shit about 'not being able to afford contraceptives'... condoms aren't that much and I get my birth control at Planned Parenthood for $12 a pack. Where's the responsibility these days? >.<

The sentence: Twist his fucking limbs off. And force him to stare at a picture of his kid while they do it.

Cruel and unusual, I don't care. The man is sick and does not need to pollute the world with his continued existence.

I'm normally a pretty callous individual when it comes to human violence, but cruelty to animals and abuse of children are the two things that can really, really get under my skin. Particularly the latter.

Seriously, what kind of sick fuck do you have to be in order to do something like this? TO YOUR OWN GODDAMN KID?

I have no more hope for humanity.

Goddamn, thats fucking horrible. A two year old?! It's not like she was even being intentionally aggravating! She just wanted to play, I assume. Most 2 year olds will have strange sleeping hours.

I hope they throw the book at the guy. ESPECIALLY after he was asking people where his daughter was - o no she was kidnapped. What an asshole.

People like this, sadly, don't show the signs of seriously being distrubed until it's too late. Lock him up for life for what he did to his little girl.

And, like Drex, the whole "she got up to walk around before she died" KILLS me. It was like one last attempt. Thats soooo horrible.

Some people really aren't born to have children. It baffles me as to how someone could possibly rationalise this behaviour. What was worse was how he tried to pretend someone had taken off with his child. Maybe it's a sign of guilt; I hope his remorse consumes him excruciatingly, if indeed he has any.

Times like this you really have to wonder what in the world was going through that man's mind when he tossed his daughter's body outside after knocking her out. Its bad enough you knock out your 2 year old daughter, but then to throw her outside like that? Yet he has the sense to ask if someone "stole" his daughter, sir you effectively threw your daughter away when you left her outside, even if someone did "steal" your daughter I'm sure she would've been better off in someone else's hands.

That is horrible. How could anyone do that to a child?! How could a parent do it to their own child?! Jail is too good for him in my opinion. He deliberatel caused harm to his own flesh and blood and then put her outside as further punishment. You just don't do that. She was nearly two. How many two year olds do you know that actually sleep throughout the night, not waking up at once. He wasn't fit to have a daughter.
I feel sorry for the girls mother who knew nothing about it. It's got to absolutely heartbreaking to hear your partner knocked your child out then left her outside in the snow. I wonder what she'd do to him if she had a chance?

It is absolutely horrible. This is the reason why I have no faith in society anymore because people are too selfish. No child should ever have to go through as something as painful as that. There are just too many people that aren't ready to be parents.

It is because of the selfishness and ignorance of some parents that these kinds of things happen. People have to realize things are not always going to be easy when it comes to raising kids, but whatever kind of problems your going through it is totally unfair to take it out on the child.

I can't really think of the best kind of punishment to provide to this person. I'm just sad that a little child had to pay the ultimate price for simply being a child and doing something that any child would do.

Eh, I wouldn't lose faith in society just because of these retards. It's not like these evil people are in the majority. They're just on the news a lot more.

Still, he deserves punishment. He definitely deserves death. Let's hope the former occurs. And when the latter transpires, it better be slow.

I guess dead baby jokes are out of the question
Dead baby jokes, while crude and crass, are generally so over-the-top as to be hard to take seriously. Ergo, I'm able to have a larf at a DBJ, and have on many occasions. Also important to note is that they're just that: jokes.

This, on the other hand, actually happened. It's one thing to crack jokes about dead babies over drinks with friends, but this sick fuck actually left his 2-year-old daughter to die out in the freezing cold. No joke, no dream, no fictional horror story, actually happened. That's why he needs icicles hammered into his eye sockets and his flesh stripped off with a vegetable peeler.

This reminds me all too uncomfortably of the lady a couple years ago who, for some godforsaken reason, put her baby in the oven. Luckily the father came home, found out what happened, and rushed the kid to the ER where, IIRC, they were able to save its life (albeit at the cost of lifelong deformities and other problems). She, too, needs to suffer and die in an agonizing, protracted, invasive fashion.

Man, to have 5 minutes alone with this degenerate motherfucker in a soundproof room full of highly-caustic substances.
