Slang You Regret

Are there any slang words you wish had never been? This includes verbal as well as internet slang. Does anyone wish "flipping" had never been coined? Anyone ever get annoyed when someone exclaims about "pwning" someone?

The most regrettable one for me would have to be "bling bling." I mean it's one thing to infect teen banter, but the dictionary? God why?

I'm not responsible for, nor do I partake in, the mutilation of the English language, so no regrets. I'm unaffected for the most part except for when I'm greeted with ebonics. Being a dialect, I guess this is the wrong place to complain about it.

"comin' liek whut" is annoying because I have friends that ran that saying to the ground. So whenever I see it/hear it, it's not funny anymore.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

"Yo mama." Makes me just want to slap them.

Saying "owned" seems rather popular even away from the internet, but it just sounds awkward to me whenever I hear it. Another one that was popular in high school was putting the word, "young" to describe anything.

I was speaking idiomatically.

By the way, when I say regret, it doesn't mean something you've said or used to say; I mean stuff you regret mankind has coined in general.

There's only some slang I regret using and that's "simon" (pronounced "see-mohn"). It's a Spanish slang term that's the exclamatory equivalent of "hell yeah". Everyone in this town uses it but I'm SOOOO sick of it.

And yet, I still find myself using it all the time.

For me, I find the word "bling" or "bling-bling" tends to have a funny ring to it. It's certainly not annoying to my ears, but I rarely-to-never say that. If someone witnessed me saying that, it'd just be quite awkward, for one thing.

I find the word "hip", as an adjective, just repulsive. It's not offensive, but it certainly makes me cringe.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Well not so much in a more rarely used context, but it's just becoming all common and frequent to see the word "fuck" mentioned these days. I hear the word at work at least twice from my co-workers, that doesn't include the numerous times the customers throw it around. Use it in it's proper usage or as an extreme exclaimation, not when you would use commas.

For awhile, I was really sick of everyone I know on another messageboard saying "stoked." Anything moderately decent that was coming up was met with a "dude I am so stoked." I can remember a thread for Star Wars Ep. 3 where nearly every single post had "stoked" in it. They haven't used it in a long time so I don't hate it that much anymore.

To be honest, I hear it enough in class but it has made its rounds through the net. Hell it still is .

And for some reason "cuz" or the overuse of the word "cousin" is starting to annoy me more than ever. I must hear everyone use it on anyone and their pet dog, or maybe I'm just getting old and just now I'm starting to notice these things.

I like how I was hanging out with my asian friends and a bunch of his friends and they used the word nigger to refer to themselves or the people they were playing against online constantly. When did that being a racial slur? Also, when did it start refering to asian people or anyone else in particular? I find it kind of annoying and confusing why they would say it.

That's them trying to be black, doncha know. I know so many people like this, and they've been like this since they were in elementary school. Sigh...

Oh, and I hate it when people ask "What's up?" or any variation thereof (wassup?, 'sup?, and so on). Sooo overused.

I remember some guy in my junior high school saying something, and I'm very thankful that's the only place I've ever heard it since. Instead of responding to a joke or whatever with "That's not funny", he'd say the following:

"BIZZ!!"



And for some really retarded reason (perhaps because it was junior high), it caught on there for a while. I never used it myself, though if I heard others say it I'd have to suppress the urge to smack them upside the head because I thought it sounded so stupid.

I don't have much problem with slang, but as Jeff brought it up, "Yo Mama" gets on my nerves almost instantly.

Hella is so hilarious yet extreemely lame. As far as I know it originated from South Park during the early seasons possibly the first season which was a loooong time ago now.

Anyway there are a lot of barely tolerable internet slang terms which upon hearing them actually said IRL would cause an explosion.
