Hajime No Ippo

I normally don't like "sports" anime, but I got hooked on HNI. After the anime was over I started reading the manga...

Hajime no Ippo is basicly like an anime version of Rocky, it's about the main characters quest to learn "what it means to become strong" and how he, in the process, takes up Boxing. More info:

http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,1...e_no_ippo.html

It's #11 on the top 200 anime list currently...

One of the things I love about this series is that, in most of the fights, you actually want both fighters to win. Pretty much all the characters are likeable.
Spoiler:
a great example of this was the match where Ippo fights Date for the Japanese title, I really wanted to see Ippo become the champion, but at the same time I didn't want Date to lose, I wanted to see him challenge the world champion

A classic in my book. I'm glad that this is one of the first animes that I really bothered to watch, because if I had seen it after I had seen some of the newer animes than I probably would have been turned off by the shoddy animation. The thing I liked best about this was the way the characters just had regular human qualities, but had superhuman perserverance which allowed them to overcome their own shortcomings.

By the way, who's that girl in the screenshot right there? I don't recognize her from the anime, it's not Ippo's girlfriend and it's not the reporter girl... but she does look like someone from the manga.

How ya doing, buddy?

Yay, I guess I'm not the only one here who's actually seen HNI...

Anyway, the girl, I forget her name. She's only in one episode, she works for a TV station thats doing interviews with the fighters at some of the local gyms, and she "spars" with Ippo while she's there...

Ippo ends up tapping her in the boobs, and then Aoki licks his glove... oh man that made me laugh...

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

im in Snoopycool (which does ippo) so im a major fan of this manga. Althought I hate how Morikawa is pushing the miyata-ippo rematch further away haha.
The manga is very well written that eeven now after 74 volumes still keeps you interested, in some strange way. The art isnt the best but bleh i think the fights are the best in any manga (althought it's moving away from the extremly-realistic side to a bit more fantasy).

I just wish that SC would release chapters on a more regular basis. The long waits between releases are killing me!

I was speaking idiomatically.

I get my HNI form Ignition One now... got tired of waiting for SC.

Speaking of the Manga, the more I read, the more I wish that the anime had keept going. There are some awsome fights that would have been great in anime form (Date's world title fight anyone?).

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

But Snoopy Cool is further ahead. . . why are you using HNI?

The only "sports" anime I've seen is Hikaru no Go, and it's great. Even at 75 episodes it left me crave for more.

So I thought I'd give this one a chance aswell, since they both share practically the same idea. I've only seen about 10 episodes so far and it seems kind of interesting. I hope the fights will be as exciting as the game's in HnG.

Only 66 episodes to go!

Ippo's on my to watch list. I've watched bits and parts of it since my brother watched it before, and it's pretty sweet. The 2nd opening is a favorite of mine.

IMHO, the fights in the second half of the series are much better than the early ones. If you like the first 10 episodes, I think you'll like the rest even more.

There was a point where they hadn't relased anything in about a year. I got tired to waiting, so I went to someone else. Since then SC has started working on HNI again, but I'll stick with Ignition One as they seem to do a good job and are much more consistent with their releases...
