Need some help here

Okay, so I'm sort of just starting out with guitar and I need some suggestions. I'm going to be playing a more melo-death type feel for my music, so I was wondering if you guys had any particular chords/scales to suggest for me to run.

I already practice basic rock n' roll type stuff and some blues+jazz, but now I'm looking to refocus my efforts on metal.

I can tremelo, palm-mute, and various other techniques that are essential to this style of music already, but I lack the knowledge of where exactly to PLAY it.

Some of my top bands are At The Gates, In Thy Dreams, Neaera, The Black Dahlia Murder, Amon Amarth, and Shade Empire.

I'm going for something just along those lines of music I'm not looking to rip anyone off or steal their style.

Thanks in advance of your guy's help.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
