What's your favorite bun type? Me, I'd go for the Filipino type as well as the Italian type - both which are really, really soft and really tasty. I also like those cinnamon buns especially out of the oven types. Really tasty.

So, what's your type of bun/bread?

Sweet buns and roast pork buns are my favorite. Vietnamese have some okay breads, too, and some American styles are actually quite good. If you're including cinnamon buns in the mix, though, I'd have to say the uber-sugary Cinnabons. <3

Oooh I second Drex's call on the chinese pork-filled buns. (More commonly known as Cha-shu-bao)

I love the Japanese red-bean paste filling variety of this too!

My favorite though; Curry-pan. It's fried bread with a curry filling inside with crunchy breadead crust on the outside. Yes, the damn bun in breaded and then fried! It's horrible for being on a diet and or being watchful for acne, but boy is it good. <3

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I thought it was cha shao bao? I only ever really knew it in Cantonese, though, and had to try to get someone to tell me what it was in Mandarin. Stupid growing up around Cantonese and never learning it, then learning Mandarin.

Curry buns are pretty good, but I'd take a Pineapple Bun over it any day. The crusty ones with the tangy insides. Yum. Red bean anything is always good, too.

Nothing beats my Grandmother's buns which were made from scratch and tasted soooo goood. They were more British type buns and tasted very good with melted butter. They were best just out of the oven, but if you microwaved them, they were just as good. Those were the days. She made killer cinnamon buns as well, which were equally awesome.

The fried curry-filled bread Jpnezeshorty mentioned is also my favorite. Considering the amount of curry-pan I ate when I was young I'm surprised I'm not fat!

Anyway, I'm a traditional kinda guy so nice hot homemade rolls are fine for me. We don't get many variants over in the UK you see.

It's another type of Chinese bun. It has a pineapple coconut-like filling, a mostly flaky exterior, and a crusty sugary top.

I'm literally in tears right now. This just kinda creeped up on me.

On a serious note, the best bread I've ever had was at Macaroni Grill. It's baked to perfection, and has olive oil and spices for dipping. I could almost make a meal out of it.

Bread from Bertucci's or Macaroni Grill. Their bread is freakin' amazing. I could seriously just eat that, get some water, then leave.

But I like the Pork Buns, mostly made in any Asian (specifically Chinese) place. Just the right amount of meat, and enough bread to compensate, and boom, it's perfect.

I LOVE Chinese dumplings, and the Japanese/French breads with either a vanilla-cream or red bean filling are the BEST.

Also, I really enjoy Kaiser rolls; don't know what it is about them, but they're very good plain or with meat~!

Cinnamon rolls are also nice, though I don't really eat those too often...

I like any type of sweet bun. Chinese, Japanese, and Filipino buns are what I typically have, but I'm willing to try anything. Buns with filling can also be good as long as the inside isn't too thick or spills out easily.

Wow, this is really interesting. We definitely don't have any of the Asian buns Drex mentions, maybe in Chinatown I guess.

I'm probably thinking along the same lines as Jamma, namely, WTF. But some of it does sound very good, and it's not like I hate Asian food, so..

I guess in Australia (and UK) we think of buns as being some afternoon or dessert food item, like a finger bun (icing sugar on long bun), cream bun, etc.

Savoury buns are definitely something new to me. Damn you guys, now I want a pork bun, I haven't eaten tonight yet.

Or "manapua" if you grew up in Hawai'i like I did. I eat them like candy whenever I have the chance, which isn't very often.

I have yet to find them in any of the Chinese restaurants here in Evansville, but the best Chinese restaurant back in Reno has them, so at least I can get them when I'm back home.

no.... i think drex knows the diffrence between a bun and pastry. Its a bun; as in bread... uh.... a bun. With not really pastry on top; it's kinda like a baste on top except like 1/16th of an inch thick. And it crumbles real nicely; so i guess it's kinda like an undercooked cracker or something.

I kinda have something against Japanese buns though. It kinda started when i read something in Newtype that said Japanese people put teriyaki chicken into a chinese style bun and i was like WHAT???? That makes no sense to me.... Its like semi-sweet, sweet. Well i guess Pork buns are sweet too, but thats still only like a hint of sweet not full blown sweet .

I've always liked Cinnamon Buns, filled with a paste similar to a jam almost. The only place that carries this bun is a local bakery near my house.

Hot cross buns anyone? No? Oh well, more for me then. They have to be heated though, no point having them otherwise.

My favourite are Warburton's buns because when they first come out of the packet they are all fresh and soft, besides we don't have too many varieties of buns over here in the UK.

Another one I have liked the past few days was a hot cross bun - something I did not have for the last 3 years. Especially those ones that are really fresh. Good for snack time.

Chinese BBQ Pork buns all the way! i've had the biggest craving for them for the longest time! makes me wish i never moved out of my parents' house. lol. i'm going to have to go to T & T one day. SOON. :P
