Virus Busting
While using limewire I searched for a song and found it. While the first download stopped at 53% I looked for another copy of it.
I saw one right away, and clicked it not realizing that the file was absolutely to small to be an mp3 file it was only like 149kb. And maybe 15 minutes later. Norton Antivirus Alerts me that I have a "w32.spybot.worm" infecting my computer. I don't know what to do or how to remove this worm from my computer, but I also realized that the longer I wait, the more it kills my hard drive. I noticed that when I reboot my computer, its memory keeps reducing. Just this morning it had 120 gb of memory, now it only has 80gb. I know it's a lot to read but any assistance in this situation would be greatly appreciated and somehow I will find a way to reward those who help. Thank you all in advance Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
Memory doesn't get reduced from a virus, and a worm doesn't kill your hard drive. Don't get so paranoid over a simple infection.
There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |

Well it's probably not killing my hard drive but it's certainly filling it up with so much stuff that it is using up a lot of memory. At least that's what I think it's doing.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
You're worrying about this tiny worm using up a lot of memory yet use Norton AntiVirus - probably the biggest memory hog in existence. That's golden.
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Limewire = bad
Norton = bad I think that the virus is the least of your problems if you are using both of these programs. Go here and follow the instructions on how to remove this from your system. Scroll down a bit and you'll find the part of editing the registry to get rid of it. If that fails, the best thing to do would be to re-format and start again, or possibly use Ghost if your Norton came with it. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |

Yeah, well Norton already came preloaded into my computer.
I didn't download it myself, I would have downloaded McAffee but I was told by my friend that the two tend to clash a lot. And also, I would start over but I have windows media center. And I don't have the CD for it. Good thing is that I can get the Windows Vista Premium for my computer when it comes out. Any thoughts if that would help me out with my problem or would it just follow up on that too? What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
If you did a fresh install of Vista then yes, it would get rid of it, but if you were going to just install Vista without formatting the drive, then there is every chance that it will still remain on your HDD.
If you have two anti-virus programs running at the same time, they tend to think that each other is a virus and conflict with one another. Not that you should ever have two running at the same time. What sort of firewall do you have anyway? FELIPE NO ![]() |

Not exactly sure on my firewall.
But for some reason, even though my computer was inactive on downloading anything I only have 42.3 gbs on my computer now. I really don't know what I have to do somehow get rid of this problem so straight forward advice would be appreciated. How ya doing, buddy? ![]() |
I would recommend uninstalling Norton, it's only a resource whore anyway. Get another anti-virus. I would recommend Avast!. I have this and it is pretty good at detecting viruses and keeping my PC clean. The home edition is free too.
As for a firewall, go Start ->Control Panel -> Windows Firewall. This will show you if you are running Windows Firewall. If you are then you can just leave it be, but if you aren't sure if you have a firewall running then it would be best to turn it on. There are bigger and better firewalls out there, but again I've been using this for quite a while now and had no problems. I did also have ZoneAlarm, Comodo, and Sunbelt/Kerio at one point or another. Comodo and Sunbelt/Kerio, I found hard to configure, and ZoneAlarm keep throwing up errors, but was easy to configure. Windows firewall may not be the best, but it works for me. Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
Also, disconnect your PC from the internet while you're away, if you really think it's downloading shit nonstop via a trojan. =/
