Which part of the news are you LEAST interested in?

If your local news network took its evening news and cut it into segments based on the above topics that you can choose to watch, which would you be least likely to watch?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Entertainment. Period. I don't listen to domestic mainstream music (Country isn't really mainstreamed. At least not how I like it), and I despise the crap that 99% of the folks in the states listen to. I went to see Rocky Balboa recently, but that was the first move I'd attended in months upon months, so movie news doesn't interest me (only word-of-mouth on it). Lastly, I think folks who prey upon the lives of celebrities are just fuckin' weird.

A *very* close second is sports. Outside of football season, I never even look in ESPN's general direction. But paparazzi's and hip hop "stars" annoy the fuck out of me.

Local politics, although boring, is important because it is what will most directly influence me.

Easily my favorite part of the news is Science & Technology. I read that section on CNN's website religiously. It's a nerdgasm.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I would have voted for entertainment as I have no interest in celebrity bullshit, but the local paper actually carries a pretty decent music review section here.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Most of the news bores me. The part of the news that I am least interested in is probably the Politics and Law, also the Business section, and the science parts as well. All have no interest to me what-so-ever.

Gotta go with sports. I'm not even interested to know who won the superbowl or the stanley cup. That's how much I don't give a damn.

Weather. Unless there is a tornado coming, who cares if it is going to rain or be cold or windy? All you have to do is stick your head out the door and find out for yourself that morning before you go about your day.

The weather is the most overhyped over talked about thing on the news. Especially when they have those poor news reporters outside in the middle of a street when there is a blizzard. Just so they can stick a ruler in the snow to "officially" measure how deep it is. Yea, we really needed you to do that for us. Like it really matters how deep it is.

A close #2 to politics and law. I used to care about politics until every single discussion about it(not just a discussion with me but others discussing amongst themselves) turned into a verbal fight about this vs that. I got so put off that I started distancing myself from politics all together.

and shame on the people who don't care about sports. Tsk tsk. You are missing out on the greatest thing in life.

Crap -- I accidentally voted wrong (I voted for what I was most interested in )

Anyways, I would have voted for either Sports or Celebrity/Entertainment, although I sometimes care about movie reviews. I really think keeping up with the 'Stars' is pointless bullshit, and I don't listen to mainstream music. Sports, in any form of the media is of the absolute least importance to my life, period.

I don't really watch TV news, so I'll treat the topic as how I go through the newspaper. That said, I'm least interested in "politics and law," which often overlaps with some local, national, and international news.

On the other end, I'm most interested in sports and science & tech. I'll read entertainment too just for jokes and jokes and spaghetti spaghetti.

Oh, and comics section and the sudoku FTW. (if it was newspaper)

I don't pay attention to celebrity or entertainment stuff at all. I really don't care about the personal and legal problems celebrities get into. I do know of some people who are crazy about stuff like that though.

Everything else, I pretty much read.

I'm going to be the 6th person as of now to vote for "Entertainment" as being the least interesting section of the news. Also, I think it's the least important section as well. The entertainment "news stories" should just stay in magazines and not branch out to more serious information outlets such as the news. I'd be amazed if one day I watched the news and there was no pitiful stories regarding entertainment making me ask: "Is this really news?".

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Celebrity gossip infuriates me. Makes me want to kill kill kill. Discussion and announcements about music and movies is fine, but the fixation on the personal lives of celebrities makes me sick. If I may channel Henry Rollins for a moment, I think celebrity worship is exceptionally weak and pathetic.

Anyway, second least important to me would probably be local news. I don't like where I live and couldn't care less what happens here short of marshal law. I follow national news, tech, and some sports (football and baseball).

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Yeah, I pay attention to generally all the categories of news, EXCEPT the celebrity gossip part of Entertainment. I hate how so-and-so got divorced after two weeks of marriage, blah blah blah. I don't care. This isn't important.

Don't give a fuck about who's banging who, or who's being charged with rape this time. I mostly stick to international politics. I like reading about things that might affect us on a global level, rather than mostly trivial stuff like entertainment, and sports news.

I also read up on space & technology from time to time.

entertainment is my least favorite, while the movies are the only real part of entertainment news that I care about, I could care less about which celebrity did what. I really expect to hear a story soon about a celebrity, let's pick an obnoxious, unkepmt pig, hm, like say Ms. Spears, and I expect to see plastered across the front page of some mag: Britney goes to the bathroom for a minute, and farts. wow, headline news

You didn't list it in your poll, but my least favorite part of the newscast is the last seven or eight minutes they spend on shit that isn't news.

Oh, the Elks Lodge #488 Women's Auxiliary held a bake sale at St. Anthony's basilica?
Mrs. Davenport's kindergarten classroom was paid a visit by the local minor league sporting team's mascot and also some nice men from the Biggenplump hotdog company?
Elmer Kerplotzky has spent nine years collecting canned corn from all over the fifty states? Tell me more about this fascinating man!

I guess you'd call them "human interest" stories, even though they're anything but interesting. Bake sales, corporate shilling and crazy, old people are not news. it's transparent fluff meant to pad out the broadcast so that viewers think they're getting a full thirty minutes of valuable information.

About the only thing worse is when the fluff segments still don't consume the last minute's worth of airspace, so the broadcasters are forced to pretend that they have personalities.

"Wow, Mary Beth, that man sure has a lot of corn."

"It is a lot, yes. I don't care for corn, personally."

"Don't tell that to Mr. Kerplotzky!"

"No, I won't. But I guess he does have a rather
corny obsession."

"Haha, yes he does. I hadn't even thought about that."

"Yep. A lot of corn in that man's basement. Corn. OKTHANKSFORWATCHINGCHANNELSIXNEWSUPNEXTISTHEEVENIN GNEWSWITHKATIECOURICFROMEVERYONEHEREHAVEAGOODNIGHT "

So basically, I only watch the first twelve minutes of the news now. Everything after that is filler.

I watch the headlines, and if something catches my eye I'll look into it. It could be anything really, but I never bother with the sport. I'm not the sporty type, mostly because I hate them all for their stamina. I always check the weather too, just force of habit I guess.

I'm so glad I've never had to put up with any of those human interest stories, although I might watch them for a laugh.

No, I wouldn't. Because local news also contains stories about buildings that catch fire, accidents, worthwhile charities (i.e. preventing the foreclosure of a longstanding soup kitchen), the unexpected, significant local happenings (i.e. former U.S. President, Jimmy Carter, speaking at a community college), etc.

News can happen on a local level and still be both significant and relevant. But, I repeat, bakes sales, corporate whoring and crazy old people are not newsworthy items.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I like to watch the news any chance I get, but I suppose the section of the news I avoid like the plague is the business section. Its just the stock market has never really interested me at all, and I couldn't really care less about what companies are merging with what companies because from my point of view, business news all revolves around one thing and thats money.

So personally I don't need to know which companies are making money and which companies are losing money. I'm sure one way or another any kind of news concerning business will affect me in a direct or indirect way but personally its just something I'm not interested in.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I have to go with weather. It's just so fucking useless. I mean, they basically spend 3-4 minutes telling you what the weather was like for the day, and how it's gonna be like in the future.

First off, I don't care for what the weather was like for the day that already passed. I already experienced, so I have no need to know the specifics. Second, despite their Doppler 2,000,000 and all the other stupid machines they may have, in the end, they're still just guessing at what the weather may be, which is obvious in how often they're still wrong. Finally, even if I wanted to know this information, I could just look it up on the internet in like 30 seconds, instead of watching it for as long as they have it on TV.

Also, if anything really important is happeneing (like a flood or a tornado), they'll tell you during the regular news anyway, so I don't have to watch the weather segment for that purpose either.

And sadly, I've been featured in one of those human interest stories before, though luckily most people I know didn't see it. I have it on tape somewhere, though...

I was speaking idiomatically.

Entertainment has to be my least favorite section of the local news broadcast because those topics are already covered in other programs geared specifically towards those kinds of topics such as Entertainment Tonight or Access Hollywood, or in nationally syndicated morning shows.

Everything else I find interesting in some aspect or another.

I don't usually pay much attention to news about the weather or anything involving celebrities. But I may occasionally listen to news about upcoming movies and the like. Also, I'm able to see the weather for my area whenever I happen to go online.

Anything about science/technology and sports can be interesting at times.

There is no point in staying to listen to the last five minutes of local news to hear about which high school team won some football game or which baseball player retired. It's just the sports caster reading off scores extremely quickly, then a shot to some coach who says a line or two about how great his team played, then some stock footage of sports games. That stuff is just as fluffy as entertainment because sports is basically that - entertainment. Unless you are playing yourself, you're watching it as a form of entertainment, and like everything else, sports has its own ins and outs: who scored what, who is MVP, who is getting a million dollar contract, who is retiring. Wow, excellent material.

So yeah, sports is definitely my least favorite.

Sports, I guess. Mostly based on the fact that as soon as the sports segment starts, I just switch the channel immediately to see if the other stations are still running regular local/world news. I only watch sports if I know a segment on my favorite team will be done, which isn't often. And if they are on, I'm pretty sure their segments air before the actual sports one in the first place.

I can't stand anything to do with celebrities either, unless it's announcing what celebrities, if any, will be visiting my town soon. Sometimes I want to see what they say about new movies coming out, so I'll voluntarily watch for that. I kind of like most of our newscasters. Otherwise entertainment (mostly celeb gossip) is very a close second.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
